DIYA store "Wolverine" (Son of Badger) .... suggestions ??

Hi Stuart,Thanks buddy.... Way LATE ,I know....
Am I TOO LATE THOUGH,THATS THE ⁉️ LOLC CAN I get the kit ? Im not caught up with ordering and availability.just thought I'd ask.Im gonna dive on and read the 2/Links now FOR SURE. SRY FOR DELAYS. Running thru herdles back home.lolyeepp

I want to expand the "ecosystem" . I literally have a "dam" of ideas that wants to break free.
-mini 60W/ch "baby wolverine" that takes 2 IPS's , uses 4 NJW's with the EF3. Some of us don't need 200w/ch. I just power 60W speakers for 100hz and up.
All my "grunt" is in my subwoofer. Integrate a nice quasi resonant SG3525a (smps controller) with gate drive trafo and current sense right on the same board. A full stereo AB amp the size of a book.
  • Large "anal" 1200W SMPS. 20A 75-0-75V MONSTER !! Very "anal" no stone unturned crazy power supply.
  • And any "accessories" VU meters , spectrum , protection ... volume controls. Merge the digital world with the primitive (badger/wolverine).

You mean like the spooky (different IPS) or a balanced input precision op-amp buffer ?? Some of the AD OPA-xxx's are PPM enough for
the balanced buffer. An accessory for the amp ? This would also need a precision regulated supply. Feedback "super Jung" territory.
Sorry I am not familiar with that design but I do recognize the name. Do you have a schematic? I'm just thinking something fully balanced would be nice, and opamp buffer would work too, but low noise.

Hi ostripper,
When it comes to supplies, why would you "bother" with 1200W smps, given that your amp would never need this power (even for peaks)?
On the other hand, I'm not a big fan of extra-large "XFMR+bridge+massive alcaps", concern being around PSRR of amps...
Thinking about mitigating effects of poor or limited PSRR , I've been contemplating for a while now, following strategy:
Going for a reasonably powerful resonant SMPS (there are very good and clever LLC controllers out there), which would give me enough "silent" power from Mains, followed by a pure (and fast) BJT ballast regulator running with limited voltage drop (several volts only, to stay cool) which would deliver rock-steady voltage rail(s) and large enough BW to cover more than the audio range. Of course, also use bulky alcaps where needed to pass peaks upstream/downstream the linear regulators, but mainly as close as possible to the NJWs.
Just my thoughts...may implement this during 2023 if time allows for it...:)

Split the SMPS up into sections with a daughtercard. Allow scaling of input supply , SM trafo , and output rectification/filtering.
400-1kw on the same board.
You could scale it with different mosfets/diodes/caps. Most controllers are adaptable. A common core circuit with 3 power levels
would fit any $$ to application need.
Build all 3 and tweak the "waveform" . I buy those cheap 10$ chinese LED PS's and make them cleaner , recap and tweak.
The layout of a resonant SMPS is slightly critical , as is the need to keep it "quiet" ... powerfactor correction.
Safety factors , like addressable shutdown and soft start would make it safe. A verbose current sense circuit.
We could wind our own trafo ...
Wind our own common mode chokes .... much fun.

In other words , we could make a "cooler" unit that would seamlessly integrate with protection , allow a arduino to read V/I ,
and is VERY safe and quiet.

Yup , still have the spooky. Good thing I have such a reliable PC ... helium hitachi 4TB hdd.
All the Wolverine stuff is in "slewmaster" LTspice and the sprint layout program are still installed . 2 years later !

I actually built the spook , i am sure it is as flawless as the Wolverine.

Speaking of the Spook... I worked with Neilshop to develop this insanity. It's based on the Spook/Leach but with some modifications. This is the 8 pair per channel. I originally designed using 6 pair but there was space left on the 400mm heatsinks so I had to expand it to 8 pair. The IPS and Driver are mounted on the 10mm thick front panel.
