Sound Quality Vs. Measurements

Here is an even more tricky question for nontrolls that Newton forgot to explain: how in the hell can forces be attractive?

Its painful to watch what's going on in the some recent posts.

Its like this: there is something called the standard model of physics. It is a mental representation of some of what is observed in nature. The model is mathematical in nature, but with use it can start to feel intuitive, at least up to point. Also, some theoretical physicists say that one can develop some intuition about the equations of physics and where mathematical manipulation of them is likely to lead. One thing no human can do is mentally visualize physical structure in more than three dimensions at once.

So, understanding forces is to study physics enough to get comfortable with, and to develop some intuition about the models. Eventually, it just 'feels' obvious. At that point it can be difficult not to think that the models are the reality.

One could also ask how ~50bit numbers are entered into a 24bit DAC.

If you mean about Cord and their claim, they are talking about a digital noise shaping filter. What it means to me in an intuitive sense is something like: its the modulator's job to chop up switching waveforms representing audio so that the resulting noise is moved away from the audio band and more or less randomized at the same time. So, audio gets chopped up into very short duration pulses that are very unlikely, when taken together over a longer period of time, to alias down into the audio band. In other words, the digital switching noise is distributed away from the audio band with a very high probability.

Here's how I see the problems:

1. There are two types of thinkers, ones that think by the norms and others who think beyond. The latter usually are higher intelligent people. So when they ask why fishes cannot live on the ground, in order to answer we have to pause and think what it is they are trying to understand.

2. Some people just don't understand the latter type and just have the tendency to look down on people.

3. But there's a reason why some experts are really hard sometimes on people that don't want to understand that they don't understand. It takes years of serious study to understand electronics which requires Physics and Mathematics. There's no workaround.

Hi plasnu,
but audiophiles are keep talking about 24 bit and 32 bit difference which can't be measurable at the listening position.
Firstly, the execution of the two designs would swamp the differences between DACS. That's just for starters. Differences between them might be measurable, but in heavy noise of speaker and room effects, plus maybe amplifier effects.

But, who cares? The question is, can they figure out which are the better units to listen to? Answer - yes. These differences may be measurable, and they may be heard. I find that good measurements often agree with good subjective sound quality. But that is looking at the entire spectrum, not just numbers divorced from everything else.

TNT,
a system that carries paradoxes carries absurdities as well. Mathematical analysis is one big absurdity. The present subject matter consists of discrepancies that I often treat with derision. Don`t take post #19836 seriously.

Quantum mechanics is essentially a mathematical concoction, but not entirely worthless kept free from distractive mathematics, unlike Einstein's theory of relativity which is a blatant mathematical nonsense. I am 100% sure everybody will unconditionally agree on this.

Forces are carefully avoided as they are cumbersome to handle mathematically and mentally. Sadly, this circumstance hampers understanding.

Unfortunately quantifying a driver with a single mike directly in front of it is not adequate. They exist in 3D space with a time element making it even more complex. If the driver is flawed you will know immediately. However you won't know how it will interact with the enclosure or the space its used it from the single microphone test (as desirable as that is).

Even headphones interact a lot with the ears they are coupled to. Headphone measurements are only a crude indication of the sound one may hear from the headphones.

Electronic measurements are much more deterministic(?) and at least repeatable. Probably why more effort has been directed to measuring electronics than acoustics.
