Did an engineer shoot your dog or steal your lunch money?

Just a few bad experiences, too bad it puts a chip on your shoulder. I knew a tech at Fermi labs that felt the same way, always bitter.

Most of the comments here about the engineering environment in large companies are tainted with personal bias and for the most part are wrong. Where do you think the components and semiconductors came from that you build your whatevers out of?

Maybe Mark can propose a framework for the two sides to agree on even what it means to "hear" something. Otherwise these discussions remain as they have, pointless exercises.

going from 90 to esr (min) can be quite interesting for those who havent seen it or measured the phase change. It is Not 90 all the way to min. especially high esr caps like polar/electro types.

But also have to include the series R with min (esr) of wiring and pcb trace etal.

Enough damping to prevent ringing may suffice to correct the worse problems but may result in less total attenuation of noise than originally intended or perhaps less ideal voltage source approximation of locally stored energy source. Perhaps more to consider than just damping?

That ultimately sounds like a compromise to me to save components.

Happy to assist, but the 'sides' would have to be interested in it. Not much possible otherwise. Also, rapid or perhaps any progress not likely if minds are already firmly made up and or there are still-festering wounds. If there were to be interest then many possible ways of proceeding.

There's the social factor of what to call "hearing", and then there's the actual factor that pretty much any experimental design that would have rigor will be rejected by all parties as way too onerous. Multiple, identical hardware pieces, many-sessions to avoid fatigue, training, etc.

It is more than a little ironic that someone who "designs" and sells electronics is so proud of their lack of knowledge of said discipline.
One of the best designers I ever worked for would constantly tell his EE's "stop analyzing and just prototype it". That was Keith Barr, one heck of a smart cookie.

I get to my destinations by actually going there. Not figuring out reasons why not to go. That's not anti-intellectual.

I got orders to fill. The next unit I build will be feeding a Marsh P2000 and some unspecified Marsh power amp. I better make sure my 0.01's are working correctly ;)

And that I thank you for from the bottom of my heart.

I just take those little goodies the likes of you design and start hammering them together until they sing.

Send me your preamp for updates!

@ Anyone,

Do you know of pieces (of music) that were recorded from the conductors perspective?

Not hanging over head mics nor those out in front of the orchestra (which would
be behind the conductor)?

I would be curious to find and listen to such examples.

Another example would be hearing the piano recorded from the
actual pianists perspective. I have yet to hear it. Most piano
stuff I've heard is not so visceral nor alive.

Cheers,

And then, the youtube posts....

the prior BASS Bass bass post,

led me here: LINK

@ Richard, Water Lily, will look.

@ Hitsware, I think that is the point, of the link I provided,
it's about the exercises,
and doing them,
or doing the ones we want,
and leaving the rest to whomever.

For those who are interested go for it,
for those who aren't,
find something that you are interested in.

Cheers,

Does the black band on a capacitor always mean that end is the outer foil or shield end of the cap?

I tried what that guy suggested I did not find any difference in any capacitor orientation. I have samo quite old type with metal jacket connected to one cap wire and still no difference just some increase in nose with no difference in orientation, and that is vailed for new production too. Could be that my environment is not so much polluted, but still if that is so much important why new caps production does no use that marking??

I hope you understand that's not the way it works and we don't have that liberty. I also hope folks understand that the strongest complaints are EE101 type stuff, the basics, which at times some seem to have a non-existent or at best a minimal grasp of.

Send me your preamp for updates!

Kevin and his buddies are making a compelling argument for the strain gauge carts so for now I'm thinking about where I want to spend my efforts. There at least should be one valve-less solution. :p
