ES9038Q2M Board

The card was defective(problem with power supply), so I send it back to the vendor.
Hello, why did you buy version "II" which needs external power supply, if version "I" is without power supply and you can add you own better power supply +0-15V ? generally i dont like any solution with power supply into any "cheap" DAC....:p , PS: there are two version of ES9038q2m withou power supply, one has only extra connectors, power plug and one extra capacitor onto desc....

Ebay sells original ones from version 1.01 to last version 1.04 (i have....)
On taobao there is very similar desc...differences described above in my text... mybe type of el. capacitors are laso different...
And one blue...

Hi,
I own the 1.04 version too.
I just wanted to compare the impact of the external linear supply on the sound quality. But too bad, once connected the 9V connectors of the card only showed 1.6V measured with multimeter. So I think that there is a problem...

Did you measure output voltage on transformer (2x9V AC) without connected to the board? (It is assumed to be measured in the AC range.)

It was measured on the card 9v pins.
It was measured with the board connected.

If I measured on the rcore transfo not connected, I get about 10v.
Yes it was in the AC range.

I don't know what is exactly the problem. I told that to the vendor who kindly said to send it back to him.
the card was working but transfo was getting very hot in few minutes.
PCM sounded ok but dsd was half noise/ half music.

Just curious, has anyone tried this board. It looks very very similar to the one being discussed here. Apparently, only a single rail of +9-15 V is required, not +-15 V.

Hello
After one month of testing of this DAC (1.04) paired with Kali Reclocker onto Rpi3 which is supplied through Kali by IfiPower 5V, and for ES Dac i have linear power supply +0-15V, I have come to this result: this DAC has very very open sound which also has very good 3D imaging (close to the listener and sometims behind ears/head 3D effect), better bass separation and goes sligtly deeper, sound is very very rich = very detailed, maybe too much for my ears...my previous setup Mambo LS , Kali 2.1 or Audioph. 9038q2m, these DAC werent so detailed and rich in terms of SQ, but in generall softer....more forgiving.
Maybe for this DAC you should have tuned overall hifi assembly and good acoustic in room..., i have Yamaha As-701 amp, and column speakers (xVisaton W200S, 2xfountek FW146 and perless HDS810921) so my combo Yamaha + Speaker is also very "live" , this causes sometimes
problems with "badly" recorded music...my room 37m2 is acoustically modified by foam panels onto ceiling and by others damping elements on floor and walls...also i tried to switch various op amps to get smoother sound , but it has slight influence on SQ (now testing dual OPA627 and will have Muses8920 and LME49860, previous i had LME49720). So for future i will also try another DAC based onto 9038, this year will come: DevDAC (dual 9038q2m) from Lakewest Audio, Es9038pro DAC from HiFiMeDIY, also found new DAC9038q2m on Khadas Community, Allo should has own new DAC based onto 9038q2m, Melokin DAC on Ebay with 9038pro and maybe others, i was also thinking on some DAC Akm4497/4495 (which should have softer sound), but there are some problems with noises/clicks btween PCM or DSD switching.... generally i read that ESS chips 9038 are very open and more detailed in terms of SQ than AKM... also i read that right implementation of 9038 is by using out tranformers not I/V op amps...this we can see on Pro-Ject PreBox2 DAC, do you think that this implementation could be better and softer...or shall i try another amplifier (advance acoustic x-i75 instead Yamaha..?), (crossover into speakers are tuned many times and calculated by Boxim tool with good frd and zma datas so here nothing would help too much.... )
Is here somebody who feels that this DAC is too rich in SQ ?
Thanks

What did you mean by this?
Hello , I meant that this DAC is capable reveal more details in music, so sometimes i fell that it is super and I am very happy to hear any small detail which i cant hear by using previous DAC, but on the other hand some music can caused unpleasant feeling = bright and milled sound, i think that it is some kind of "tax" if you have very open sound system, DAC+Amplifier+Speakers, problem is that i listen to also metal and there you can expect bad records...on any rock, classical, pop music it is very this money perfect DAC...:D sorry for mistakes, i came back home from pub :p
