Thanks

Understood...I wasn't trying to make more work for you. :) If I had any of these drivers I would offer to loan them to you for testing, but you already tested the only ones I have (the Tang Band W3-1364SA). You also tested a different Tectonic; the one I suggested is a new 2" model that claims to have an exceptionally flat fr though naturally limited bass.

I am thinking of getting the Peerless TG9FD10 after hearing your sound tracks. I like my TB but the TG9s sound better.

Ok, the requests so far for drivers that I have on hand:
These are the definite high rollers:
B80 (paper)
10F/8424 (paper)

SB65WBAC25-4 (aluminum)

TC9FD (paper)
TG9FD (fiberglass)
maybe need to pick either TC or TG9

These are new and *must* be tested
TYP03 (black Kevlar TG9)
FF85WK (paper)
FF85WKeN (paper with Enabled treatment)

Let me think about it...

have you considered the Peerless PMT40,
it's excellent mid-range, but obviously can't be run as low in frequency as the larger drivers,
it is however better in the top end and off axis.

Hi.
I'm planing to build small set of speakers with small woofer/sub woofer driver (I think TANG BAND W5-1138SMF might be good) and some decent full range driver to play from about 300-400Hz. Any ideas? I like flat and neutral sound but not dulled.

Budget is 80$ for a pair of full ranges. Any ideas :p ?

Yes but TG9 are not full range (at least from internet frequency graphs) :) . I hear up to 20kHz and I would like to use it :p .

What about tangband fullranges?

Like picked woofer W5-1138SMF :)

In general suggested 8 ohms TG9 because its inside your advertised budget and tested in comparison to be smooth out of box which is a parameter that often reflects its worth into other measuring windows such as waterfall and HD. Think 8 ohms TG9 are as much full range as other brands else you have probably looked at some wrong graphs somewhere, its important to get 8 ohm version because 4 ohm version have not same response. A year 2017 datasheet is attached below and also find its various measurements burried into round 2 and 4, here is links:

What about tang band w3-665SC? They are logitech OEM drivers. Cheaply available and they have very flat freq graph... Datasheet http://forum.zelfbouwaudio.nl/download/file.php?id=66903

Unfortunately they don't play highest frequencies that well but...for the price I have to pay for them I can live with that :p .

I played with boxsim for a bit and something like this came out:

Where is that graph of the FR from?

+/- 2 dBs from 500Hz to 12kHz, and a very shallow drop on the higher frequencies.... if that was true, they could sell that driver hundreds of dollars.

I have yet to find one that performs like that without a "doctored" graph, hugely smoothed data or heavy EQ.

That boxim simulation look really good :) a comment is that in datasheet X-max stroke is listed as a small 1,0mm and a very good numbers of 88dB sensitivity make up for that, but in real world watch out for sensitivity numbers because they often less than claimed.

It's boxsim simulation. Visaton program. Free to use.
I used splcopy to make frd files of drivers. I've made one set of speakers this method already and they sound very good. I can't here any holes or dents in freq.

That driver has +/- 2dB from about 150Hz. This graph is already with crossover. Download pdf from link and you'll see yourself :) .

I always take manufacturers provided SPL graphs with a grain of salt.

I'm used to seeing TB graphs... they look good on the website, but in real life, every little bump is accentuated 10x.

Sorry I can't help you there.

I take real life data from actual drivers, mounted on the baffle they are supposed to be in, then come up with XO and the likes.

Even flat recognized ones, like the TC9/TG9, or B80, do not come close to +/- 2dBs throughout their spectrum.

Good luck!
