I had a friend visiting one of the magazine reviewers and he swapped the speaker cables on one channel with ordinary zip cord and concealed it well. After a week of occasional listening without issues he told him and he said, "Oh I knew something was wrong".
I have done some mistakes which I just let pass until I was in the mood of determining “why” as well. Not often, but it can happen when I am in the “background music” listening mood.
Senility is so sad to see take hold in a person.
What is particularly sad is personal attacks on such a terrific audio forum. I'd tell you to grow up but I don't believe in personal attacks...with the possible exception of those who resort to personal attacks.

We all have been a bit rough on each other but since we are supposed
to be Men I assumed those who could dish it out could also take it.
Perhaps you should read back through the thread.
Sure we have been rough but not with true malice toward one another.
I will try to be gentle as to not offend anyone's tender sensitivity.

You guys are operating at about the level of college sophomores. I think that the term 'sophomoric' is appropriate here.
You are too polite John....sophomoronic is the more appropriate term.

Agreed, personal attacks and ad hominem fallacies are not appropriate here.
Interesting is "memory" effect of connectors after long time of use in specyfic directionThere are two definitions at play here. There is commercial crap and there is commercial good.
Belden makes a good cable.
Rojone makes a good cable.
Monster does not make a good cable.
If you use twine or steel for your shield you are going to make a crap cable. If you don't use enough copper in the shield you are going to lose shielding at higher frequencies. If you don't use a thick enough gauge of copper wire you are going to get a fragile piece of ****.
I don't know where you got the idea that there are no differences between commercially made cables from. There probably isn't any difference between competently made commercially made cables. But there is definitely a difference between incompetently made cables and competently made ones.

I try to remember these are not real conversations, we are all hiding behind our keyboards
Indeed, I'm even more of a smart ___ in person.
What does that even mean???
No damping. Even some cell phone guys are exploiting that with earbuds.

It's OK, I'm of German decent. I'm used to (and prefer) people to say what they mean.
Like I say, I'm not an A**hole I'm German (being from NY doesn't help.)
To answer the question, as I understood it, it would lower the dampening.
I would assume that would take out the 'Sharpness" of fast attack and Decay.
For me I just run tubes as I prefer the sounds of tubes.

My wife is Canadian and it took here a while to figure out that when my friends and me yelled at each other in a discussion and were REALLY serious about it that the friendship wasn't over and it wasn't odd at all that we came to an agreement (or not) and kissed five minutes later

My favorite is the guy that claimed the woofer had visibly larger excursion that was not measurable on the signal at the terminals.
I just messed around with my speakers. For measuring them I use a Class D amp. It was interesting to see, that the FR plot taken with the Class D thingy was exactly the same as the one taken through the tube amp I currently use for listening which has really bad output transformers and frequency response nowhere near as nice as the chinese eBay chip.

Growing up most my friends tended to come from German families.
I think it was because we understood how we were wired.
And yes it's funny how we could go from nice to not nice and back quickly.
What was the schematic of said crossover...ie were there shunt components in parallel with the 'missing' tweeter ?.
Dan.
It was just a series capacitor. But that doesn' matter as the salient point is that at the end of the wiring, it was connected to nothing -- one of the tweeter leads hadn't been connected at all.
Are you joking or serious?
There is quite a big different since someone tries to “improve” the sound of one of my setups years ago but backfired. But there is lots of interaction there which really should be designed to me not so sensitive to such differences. It would be nice to just connect and not worry about those effecting performance.
