I think you are right that you reported no difference that you could tell.
I cleaned out my DIY Mailbox recently and deleted corrspondences...yours too it seems.
Dan.
Dan, seriously.
On the positive side, you seem to collect listening impressions from outsiders to evaluate what you are working on. That could be a first step in validating that your efforts do produce an auditory result. A real scientist might proceed thusly.
However, and this I see as a detriment to scientific procedure, you do not inventory those results and keep them on file. I would think that is both an insult to your test subjects, as well as to logic and reason.
By the way Venus, please tell David Sanborn to cheer up.
Why don't you tell him yourself? I put volunteer time into this forum to help others gain good performing circuits at low prices. I'm breaking through the barrier of premade PCBs and kits which seem to be so common here now and providing gerber files for free to everyone that are paid for out of my own pocket to do so based upon proven circuit designs.
I'm not a messaging service.
if you want to criticize me for liking E-Core transformers over other types then why don't you do the scientific thing and prove that I'm wrong? Then we can safely say that there is no difference between the two and that I'm mistaken and I'll do the same thing when I finally build my new TDA1541 dac. The reason why I'm repeating the experiment is so that I can prove to myself weather or not there is a difference. Even I don't know for sure. That would've been the most logical thing to do.
Maybe we can even measure the output and compare them and search for any differences.

Dude. I was just making a joke about the face in your avatar.
haha.
The avatar is from rick and morty. Not sure about the relevance to David Sanborn.
I've changed my avatar to better reflect my love of R&M.

Btw: I had a chance to use really really really expensive speaker cables yesterday. DCR, inductance and capacitance were all lower than my own cables. Both me and my hifi reviewer buddy who brought them over felt the same difference: we both stopped tapping our feet and nodding our heads to the rythm. This was quite an interesting experience.
Yeah, we had an audio gathering once, I brought an amp and a pair of speakers. Someone tried to replace my power cables with some really expensive stuff, the sound was so unbearable that he pulled them out in a few minutes. There is great uncertainty in trying to mix and match the different stuff. There are so many things to play around with these days that not many people want to spend time to try and figure things out.
The famous question: do I experience the color RED the same as you? Does RED look te same to you as it does to me?
No f*cking way to tell.
Jan
There was a guy some 150 years ago who proved for himself that
his colour vision was different from that of most people.
I'm not @ home, so I cannot look it up. It involved a flower
and sun- and candle light. I found that quite impressive.

In awe the positive way or the negative way?
No awe. Nothing notably changed about the sound, nothing like "oh, the cymbals sound much clearer, I can hear a trombone that wasn't there before, ...". Nothing of that. It was just suddenly all boring with the motivation to move to the music gone.

Could be just a lack of compression. No noticeable difference in the loss or gain of the music yet the audio sounds different = compression.
Maybe what we all think is botique changes is in reality changes in the amount of compression of the waveform.
Uh huh, so how does speaker cable with lower DCR, inductance and capacitance values cause compression ?.Could be just a lack of compression. No noticeable difference in the loss or gain of the music yet the audio sounds different = compression.

It doesn't. It removes compression. The older audio cables sounded better so they probably contributed compression, the more expensive ones removed that compression. Hence the reason why the expensive ones sounded worse, they removed compression.
Compression sounds good initially until you realize that its a fake representation of the original material.

That is how I look when confronted with Sanborn's 'music', others may too; that might be the link.
The problem with Sanborn's 'music' is that by the time you notice it the elevator doors will have shut and you're stuck with it for a few levels.
With the new cables (with lower DCR, inductance, compression)...
Speaker cables have invariant electrical values, so how can they cause compression ?.
Dan.
That sounds like a description of addition of compression, not removal of compression....It was just suddenly all boring with the motivation to move to the music gone.

When it comes to speaker cables I look for reasonable explanation and structure before I buy. We had a cable shootout here once. Those attending would bring speaker cable and interconnects. For speaker cables, I brought two pairs, a pair of Alpha Core, and a pair I build myself. Both pairs sounded cleaner than all the others, the pair I build based on braiding described in a copy of Speaker Builder was the cleanest. Afterwards, one participant borrowed it to listen on his own system.
