General diyAudio store questions thread

Hi,

I think I misunderstood the ordering system and screwed up on my order.

My order number is DAS-2249.

In my 5U/400 Dissipante order, of the 4 heat sinks delivered, only 2 are the UMS type, the other 2 are not. Secondly, my top and bottom covers are perforated. One is 4 row and the other is 6 row. I need one to be completely solid and the other to be 6 row.

Can I return the 2 standard heatsinks and one of the perforated covers (4 row) and get what I originally wanted? Thanks!

Anand.

Lnear Systems has finally shipped the bulk transistors to the matching facility. They are currently in-transit. They need to be individually measured, sorted, matched, and packaged, then sent to the web fulfillment center where they can be ordered and sent to customers.

Hopefully this process does not experience any delays, but best case I'd guess about 4 weeks.

I have an issue with the order I received late last week. What it the best way to get help with the issue? I've sent an email to the "contact" link off of the DIY Store web page, but would like to know if there is an alternative preferred method of contacting the store for help.

Thanks!

Does anyone answer questions here? Anyone?

We're currently at the tail end of "rebuilding" the store with all new infrastructure and processes. We've grown a lot over the last few years, especially the last 18 months, and this has resulting in some growing pains on many fronts (accounting, inventory management, "loose ends" like this forum that don't scream for attention). We're in the transition right now from this being a "kitchen bench" operation with numerous bottlenecks resulting from inefficiencies and lack of processes, to a well oiled, well rounded operation to give you guys the sales and customer service experience that you should expect from something associated with diyAudio.

While we answer most questions sent to the helpdesk (contact@diyaudiostore.com) within 24 hours, one glaring omission on the public facing front has been staying on top of the threads in this forum. Ironic considering diyAudio is itself a forum, I know. We (now) have a commercial grade email customer service system, but no forum monitoring processes in place! Can you imagine? I know, I know... the embarrassment... Implementing a daily process for staff to be notified and respond to every unanswered post in here has been high on the todo list for a long time now, and will be done very shortly.

Over the last few months (in terms of the store, diyAudio itself of course has also taken a lot of focus with the recent server upgrades) my focus has been on the accounting (which especially with the recent pre-orders, got very complicated very quickly), and inventory management (we've traditionally had a lot of issues with cashflow, lead times and staying on top of what to re-order). We are, as of today, finally on top of both these things (accounting and inventory management) and they are both ready to scale over the year ahead (which is going to be a big year with lots of new products released). So for the future - more stuff, in stock more of the time! We really had to take stock (pun intended) over the last few months of what we were doing right, and wrong, and put down a solid foundation for 2018.

Next up is most certainly ensuring that these threads are taking care of with the same care we give to our email support. It's been very easy to just focus on that, and I do apologize for the tardyness to replies in this forum itself.

You might have noticed that we haven't been doing any promotions, emails, etc. That's because we've been busy getting things right for the future. We have high expectations for what kind of service we want to give over the years ahead, and we couldn't give that level of service using the systems and processes (and lack thereof) we had in place previously. Of course, customer service should be the first priority, and I can confidently say we've consistently been doing a great job over email the last year, but clearly we need to up our forum game. Expect radical improvements on that front within the next 7 days.

The preferred way to get help with any orders is email to contact@diyaudiostore.com. We generally respond within 24-48 hours, a bit longer on weekends.

Was ordering PSU and Honey Badger today and I think I messed up with quantities. I need 1 PSU board and 2 Honey Badger boards to build a stereo amp. Order #DAS-3593. Thanks!

I see that Elena has already sorted you out, but for anyone else reading, in case of any order related questions please email contact@diyaudiostore.com and we'll help you straight out.

What is the IEC Socket cutout dimensions/layout on PESANTE 2U?

I'll get an answer to this as soon as I can.

Hello Jason,

Well, you know you just wrote a novel, right. I find the biggest impediment to my electronic projects, not just audio, but all of them, is enclosures and chassis. I'm not going to assemble a complete machine shop to build them, even though I think about it. No one has a complete solution to constructing the enclosures I want. There is only one anodizing company in my state now. The right/correct heat sinks are impossible to find. I have projects with power supplies and boards strung together, just wanting a home in a nice enclosure. If diyaudio store can expand this one area to cover more ground, I would be very, very appreciative and happy.:):D:):D:wave:

Thanks,
MI
PS I found a picture of the cutouts for IEC socket in FAQ, at bottom of page, there needs to be more info right where the chassis are. Can the rear panel be flipped end for end so IEC socket is on other end of panel?

I agree with you that enclosures are the hardest piece of the puzzle for most builders. We hope we have made some progress with the Deluxe chassis. Stay tuned for a new Deluxe "Mini Dissipante" for smaller projects in the near future, and possibly a Deluxe 3Ux300 as well.

I will get back to you shortly about flipping the rear panel after speaking to Hifi2000 directly to make sure the information I give you is correct.

The 400mm 5U is an extremely large chassis and has a bunch of heatsink.

And remember, Monoblock is an easy way to double your dissipation.

:)

Monoblock was the design from the start, but I want the sink temperature to be below 44 C. If I remember my calculations each side needs to be .08-.1 C/W. The heat sinks I was looking at would be 8" (203) high 22" (558) long and 3" (76) fins. I have 4 to 5 projects waiting on the right chassis, I guess I will need to be less picky, but I don't want to be.:(

Aluminum rear panels are completely flat, and therefore can be mounted any which way you like - "inside out", or upside down. This is also true for aluminum covers.

Steel rear panels and covers have bent "flaps" at the edge, which means they can't be mounted "inside out", however there is no notion of top or bottom, so you can spin them 180' when mounting.

As you can see in the attached pictures, the IEC hole can be at the bottom left, or top right, by flipping it "upside down" (ignore the separate hole in this example photo, which is not part of the spec).

We have details on the IEC hole specification in our chassis FAQ, which answers most chassis related questions:

We also have a dedicated page on the IEC hole here which links to a PDF mechanical diagram:

I have also attached the diagram for your convenience.
