...the effect of the brick is directional.

Dan, all kidding aside: You need to get that on some T-shirts.

Ugly slabs. Some electronic components are microphonic. Slightly.

How microphonic?, at what levels does vibration have an effect?
Automotive, military, aerospace kit all undergoes vibration testing, from what I have seen for domestic electronics I would hope that the vibration levels kit endures to be mild, and as long as resonances don't build up it shouldn't be a problem. Record decks are mechanical so different rules apply so need to be isolated from all external forces where possible.

Forgot about tubes after reading further, got a tube mono-blocks and over the years they have been mounted on a variety of surfaces from a proper Hi-Fi rack, paving slabs, Argos chipboard TV stand to the floor, now I think about it I have never really noticed any difference, my problem is enjoying the music and singing along! stops me from hearing my system most of the time...

JC and Dan, when are you going to take your stand up routine on the road, you could call it "the wife in the kitchen tour" or in Dans' case "The rock singer in the dressing room tour".
If you want to test your theory on the differences between bases hire an EMC lab, do some tests, if it is some electromagnetic effect it will show up in the radiated spectra as well as on conducted immunity and transmitted tests. Same with the silly Entreq ground boxes (or how to add an antenna to your system, EMC don'ts number 1.) discussed these recently as we are working on a couple of things where connecting to mother earth (ground!) will be hard. So we wondered whether these grounding boxes would help!!!! LOL A good test is get a length of wire, stick on end in your scope, the other end in your garden and enjoy the perfectly flat line on your screen...
What will they come up with next, as some of the items shown on the last couple of pages are hilarious at one level, their effect on the techno savvy younger generation is not encouraging them to become audiophiles.

I have future T-shirts in mind and they will be pretty funny.....I can't disclose product name quite yet.

Dan.

Nor any details about your magic filters, its been quite a number of years now...

Just sell plain t-shirts and tell up they have a quantum message printed on them, that only the true believers can see..

Dan, I have had a number of experiences similar to your brick directional effect over the decades. Some of Jack's latest 'bricks' do amazing things, beyond my understanding, in front of several witnesses at a time. Been there, experienced that, but as we know, we get laughed at if we tell certain people about it. Still others, lurking in the background, might learn something new, or to at least trust their ears. '-)

Other thoughts. ....some are more sensitive than others to timing scatter/jitter.
Why is it so ?

Dan.

Some 'claim' to be sensitive to it. Yet to see any evidence that this is actually the case! Likewise electromagnetic sensitivity. All tests so far show a bit fat placebo reaction. Which is of course what the high end snake oil industry relies on.

........dowsers are sensitive to changes in magnetic field strength though not to absolute magnitude, but believes them to be much more sensitive than other investigators have indicated and that a fairly sensitive dowser can respond to a change of 1 X 10-6 gauss per second (Harvalik, 1970). Later in this report he claimed that an average dowser could detect a change of 3 X 10-7 gauss, a skilled dowser 3 X 10-8 gauss, and an exceptional dowser 7 X 10-9 gauss (the actual gradient involved is not completely clear) and that he tested one subject, Mr. De Boer, who could detect changes of 2 X 10-10 gauss. He mentioned that he found the L-rods gave better results than the forked stick and were easier and more sensitive for inexperienced dowsers. Only final results are presented in many of his reports, and methods of statistical evaluation are not discussed. It is unknown whether double blind conditions were strictly observed and whether all normal sensory cues were eliminated. One of his reports (Harvalik, 1978) is notable for the amount of detail it contains; it is discussed further in the Physiological Studies section of this paper.
Harvalik also found that dowsers could detect and discern different radio frequencies and radioactive substances even with considerable shielding (Harvalik, 1973a; Harvalik and De Boer, 1976).
