Do these symptoms suggest the clock is not installed correctly or is something else at fault? If Shiga is not receiving clock signal are these expected?
Appears the coaxial connector to the deja clock is not making a good connection. I will contact vendor and ask for replacement.
Else I will desolder coaxial connector and solder cable directly < is this a good idea?
Thanks Tibi
I had worked that out for myself from the schematic for XO options on the assembly manual. I believe I have fitted neutron clock correctly but..
But for now shiga is kaputt.
- mechanism does not spin on startup
- display is backlit but no info displayed

Will go back to check all is as it should be again.
Thanks in advance for your help
Have you added R47=47ohm in place ?
Does Dexa clock output correct frequency 16,9344MHz?
Have you set Dexa for 3V or 5V clock output ?

Tibi

Have not added R47
Purchased 16.9344 clock and that is what it reads on the can
Used as stock - so Vout is set at whatever the stock value is - which should it be?
Before lights out last night I did get it to work.
The pin in the coaxial connection (both on pcb and pigtail) was not centred and thus not connecting - if has been damaged now because of bending but I managed to get it to make a connection - however only if the shield is floating at the Shiga end. Will fit new parts to coax connectors if you think hard wiring the coax is not a good idea.
Thanks

Wonder how is working without R47.
I don't know what is default set in Dexa. You should ask manufacturer.

Will add R47
Default power from factory is 3.3v

All sorted now thanks, Tibi
R47 installed vertically
Clock Psu set to 5v
Shield from clock pigtail connected at Shiga board
All playing well
Brilliant
Which dexa clock did you use?
Which Dexa clock did you use sthcoaster? Neutrino or the big daddy Neutron Star?

Got it figured out
Traced it to one of the 18 ribbon wires not contacting. Display is back to normal now.
OK I will check the ribbon cable as I have cut it and added a joint connector.

Bought the Neutron Star while nobody was looking
I used to do my testing with headphones (partly because my hearing is not great) but I may need to upgrade my cans as I now prefer the sound from my speakers! My main speakers are KEF104ab and the separation between the instruments now is fabulous, nice sharp noises from rim shots and the like, plenty of detail from barely audible noises and plenty enough bass for my needs. Looking forward to more pleasure once it has run in (1-2weeks is recommended).
Looking at Soekris DAC now to go with it.
shiga mk2 finished
Hello Tibi,
my shiga is finished and playing - added some impressions.
The sound is very good - lively, precise and musical - better than the flac files from NAS, played with a Cambridge streamer.
DAC was in both cases a DDDAC1794 and the amplifier was a tube one, the UCL11 from Frank Blöhbaum with 8 Ohm resistor as load working perfect as headphone amplifier. Headphone was AKG 812 and believe me you hear every detail with it - thanks to the shiga.
Greetings from Austria and best regard
Christoph

Great set of photos Christoph. I very useful reference/comparison.
What size is your enclosure? The top plate over the spindle and laser mech is different to others that I have seen and different to the template that is provided - interesting to see.
Nice to see a close-up of different implementation of the buttons - I have been puzzling about this for myself
Enjoy!

272 mm x 211 mm x 60 mm - the aluminium casing is from China - the same I used for the DDDAC 1794 and similar to the UCL 11, which is bigger, but the same style
design was done by me - sketch added in a previous post (only position of display changed)
all the holes are drilled or done with a jigsaw and file, except the 125 mm hole in the top plate, which was cut with water jet
After a long time finally nearly finished my shiga... lots of metal work had to be done. Seperators are painted steel to get more weight, transport pickup is done on 5 axis cnc mill from one aluminum block. The whole construction is sitting on custom made springs to balance rotation forces of the cd. Wanted to make the transport a little more compact so used a 1U case from modushop.
Still on plan:
- adding v1/2, board is already installed but not 100% finished. Low noise cap multiplier.
- upgrading the clock from tent labs to something better
- Make a custom aluminum case for the remote
Chain:
- Transport: Shiga MK2
- DAC: Soekris DAM1021
- Pre: Passlabs Preamp / Naim NAC 152X
- Amp: Passlabs XA30.8 / Symasym Black Beauty / Sony VFet Part 2
Plays absolutely perfect.

Thanks tibi, pictures are a little bit older. Most stuff is soldered and double checked. One big "problem" of the 1U case and my transport / main pcb placement was, that on later tracks, the FPC cables bend was so big and the cable could not make that bend to the top (as the height of the case is only 40mm), that later tracks could not be read. Had to use a shorter cable (127mm) and use a more flexible series.
Some more pictures of the aluminum block and the DAM build....

Hiya Fabian
Very impressive. You will be feeling like the cat who has got the cream I am sure.
Can you please write more about your "custom springs"?
I was going to try using springs from suspension in Radio controlled car/4wd but hard to find good size.
Thanks
Clayton
