Hypex Ncore

How efficient are your speakers? With the Sparko's there's not much hiss. But I can hear some with my ear to the speaker. I hear nothing with the Hypex boards.

Just a wild question. Do you have the top covers in their place on top of the amp without the screws? I also had some hiss coming from right channel. I had the top covers like described. When i removed them all together. The hiss was gone. Both channels have been dead quiet ever since, for a week now. This is with the Burson's.

I don't know, if that was the fix or just powering the amps off/on couple of times. And i have the RCAs instead of XLRs. My speakers are 89dB efficient, so not very efficient tho. https://www.marten.se/heritage/bird2.htm

I just have the boards connected and they are in the open sitting on an aluminum plate. It's not enough background noise to be an issue. Certainly not at the level of a tube amp. But certainly not better than -110db noise floor if it's audible from the speakers. The speakers I'm using are 89db. So if they were klipschorns or something 100+db it would be very audible.

I connect my modded OEM boards in place with everything positioned exactly the same and dead silence like the amps are off.

So since you have both the Bel Canto Ref600M's, and the Nord 1 up monoblocks with the Burson discrete opamps, which is your favourite between the 2?

Did you try the Sparko's yet? Hopefully Colin sorted out the noise issue with the Sonic's, because they are clearly the best. He said he ordered 25, so I can imagine him and Richard will be trying to sort out the issue.

Since you have both boards, any chance you could measure the difference? Or maybe that is Boggit could? I personally take -110db noise floor anyday if it means better subjective quality. I guess "klipschorns" people need to use the OEM board, can't argue with that.

If you tried some wonder dac and maybe also some wonder speakers, you'd maybe notice how good these nCore based amps really are.

I will be trying my nc500 out on some TAG McLaren F1 as soon as my friend returns from Portugal. £28,000 pair of Loudspeakers ...Monitor Audio Platinums are considered high end speakers at £5250 RRP and many thought they compete with the best in terms of image and resolution, but maybe not the last in bass of course having only 6.5" drivers

If the F1 loudspeakers don't sound much, if any better, than with the 250MR amplifiers they are being driven by, then the DAC is last thing to convince me nCore is the bOmB (so far the F1 sound a bit more refined in the top end in my listening experience thus far, not as brassy etched as my PL200)

Boggits nc500 are a good price and he is a good guy, no qualms there.

nc1200 are overpriced in my view, if they indeed sound 'the same' as nc500 until extreme levels!

Be nice if Hypex levelled the playing field a bit - trickle down technology and work on a 500W/1000W amplifier to stuff the exorbitant competition :)

You can't first use current second hand price (the amps) then switch to list price when new for the speakers (which seems to sell second hand for under 5k).

Why should they? They sell lots of NC400 to the DIY crowd. NC500 to allow value high power complete amps to be build and NC1200 to the bling crowd. All bases covered all happy.

Just because the eternal truth that there isn't much to chose between 2 competent amplifiers operated in their comfort zones has finally hit you does not mean Hypex should change their business model.

Ps. Everyone knows the nc1200 module is not that costly to make and certainly not to the OEMs that hock them; Hypex should try sell MORE to the masses...making nc1200 affordable to the average Audiophile and still have some prestige (i.e. beating the overpriced competition by a country mile) would be very nice ...although Mr Putzeys may have a price set on his own head, by those selling "The Emperors New Clothes" ;-)

Pps. I wouldn't mind Bruno making £10K a pair of his MolaMola because it was HIS hard work and kudos to him, sincerely

You keep swinging your TAGs. Wasn't they more design than sound. I don't hear much about these anymore... Hyped per price when they entered the market - never managed to impress...

I'm comparing the nc500 to my TAG amps and so far they have not exceeded much sonically

Is the Oppo BDP-105 Analogue output really so dire? I need a very special DAC to notice an improvement? Well I'm on the John Westlake FDAC project ...if it's not all I expect after that in the mix I'm giving up on Audiophoolery and wasting countless hours every day listening to arguments on Forums like these

I don't have an AP system. The guys who build my boards do, and if I'm combining 3rd party components together I take them to a local place that has the latest AP gear.

They are 87db/1 watt

Well the 2db could make the difference I guess. But so could hearing levels. Some can't hear as good at those frequencies of the noise. It's not a big deal, just noise levels typical of a standard class A/B amp. But would be nice to see the measured results. And I do agree that a bit of noise isn't bad if the sound is better. The sonic imagery 994's do sound better if you ignore the loud hiss in the background. But that discrete opamp is rated with a -140db noise floor, so the noise is coming from the board, not the 994.
