Hornresp

Yes I agree that David's work is worth a great deal of money.

I have offered more than once. And that offer stands.

But what some of the sim packages cost, I could do a very considerable amount of drivers for. So I agree to a point. FEMM is free and it is the backbone of many of the commercial Magnetic FEA programs. Not all. But like Hornresp FEMM has been benchmarked against the really expensive magnetics packages and found to be with a few percentage points of difference.

With what is available in opensource software these days it is kind of a paradise for people who are willing to put a little work into combining the software and the know how.

If David allowed Hornresp to be controlled via a series of commands there are a couple of packages like FreeCAD that could be used to create an awesomely integrated audio design package.

Unless the client assignment is for software design, then ready-to-use tools will be used. Compared to cost of a typical client assignment, these software costs are nominal, particularly if their use enhances the likelihood that the project product is successful and delivered on time. Their proposed use may also be a sales tool as well. WHG

David, have you seen this? Bill

SpeakerLAB srl

Hi Bill,

No I hadn't - the only "Speakerlab" I was previously aware of is based in Seattle. I still have a hand-written letter from Pat Snyder filed away somewhere :).

Many thanks for bringing this other "SpeakerLAB" to my attention - neat software. (I wonder why the Le Cléac'h profile is not included?).

Kind regards,

David

big horn

Hi Everyone,

The error detailed in Post #5734 has now been fixed. My thanks to Twellmann for reporting the problem.

For the test example given in Post #5734, the horn mouth peak sound pressure at 28 Hz has changed from 29788.0696 Pa to 229.5493 Pa.

Sanity check:

Mouth peak pressure = 229.5493 Pa
Mouth rms or effective pressure = 229.5493 / Sqrt(2) = 162.3159 Pa

Mouth sound pressure level = 20 * Log10(162.3159 / (2 * 10 ^-5)) = 138.1866 dB

Half space SPL at distance of 1 metre = 134.6590 Kind regards,David

Hi there: That is outstanding response Twellman obtained from a really big horn enclosure. From post #5734: horn mouth 69,519squarecm by 545.04cm long. My calculator still smoking... to convert to feet and inches here in USA. Have you built it, how does it sound? ...regards, Michael

Hi Michael,

That is outstanding response Twellman obtained from a really big horn enclosure. From post #5734: horn mouth 69,519squarecm by 545.04cm long.

It would seem that Twellmann has selected a particular driver, specified two of them connected in parallel, and then used the 'System Design With Driver' tool to automatically generate the design shown.

My calculator still smoking... to convert to feet and inches here in USA.

To see the Imperial measurement equivalent in feet or inches, simply highlight the input box and press the F6 function key.

S2 = 74.9722 square feet
L12 = 17.8819 feet

Have you built it, how does it sound?

That's one for Twellman to answer... but I would be very surprised indeed if it has actually been built :).

Kind regards,

David

How do you copy all the simulation files to the next updated HR?

Or do I lose all of my past simulations unless I save as an export or import?

Was updating to the latest but dont know how to save all my past simulations. I had a few HR's going in the past because of this also. My last one has about 300 simulations. I would like to keep about 150 of them but do I just need to save all of them as an export?

Thanks

Is there support for tractrix horns? I have made a trynergy and these is with akabak, but is for me difficult.

I did see the tractrix do fall off above 1.5 Khz, so I have sshelf it for right respons, akabak however do lit see a lineair respons, but in real live!!..

regards

Very interesting Kees. I was looking at building a mid horn with either an 8 or 10" myself to cover 225-1200hz. Roughly. Looks like yours does that. :D

I just installed it in another area. I copied all import/export and driver files to the new one but not sure where all the simulation files are stored. So still looking at figuring it out.

What I have done successfully for quite a few years is decompress the setup files. Open the new setup folder. Cut and paste the contents into your existing Hornresp folder. When prompted replace the files with the same names.

I haven't lost a design since. Up to 643 now. Some of them are even useful.

What is the difference when using:
System Design>with driver
System Design> from specifications

I had been messing around a lot trying to do a mid horn and like the results of the latest design but I used the "from Specs," and hope this is fine. I had used "with driver before and didnt quite get the same results initially. BUT now that I have a design that I am very happy with I am hoping I didnt do something wrong to rain on my parade.
