The food thread

Exaggeration does not enhance an argument. I don't think there is a single documented 130yr. old man/woman.

it's a statistical certainty that all men would have died of prostate cancer by that time-mark.

That was told to me by a cosmologist from Wash U. He also stated that the earth has about 10^60 years to run before the cosmos implodes upon itself.

One could have it scraped* out at 75, and hit 150 on life support.

(* back in the old days, through the pee-p hole with something that looks like a miniature ice cream scoop, see resectoscope. Better not think about waking up from a full anaesthetic halfway up the mountain trail, brrrr)

Birthday dinner for the wife. Sometimes everything just comes out perfect. All the veggies are from our CSA farm picked less than 4 days ago. Morrocan glazed carrots with cumin, cinnamon, sugar, and orange juice/zest, sauteed tatsoi with leeks and shitakes, mashed potatos with garlic and parsley served in slices of baked delicata squash (very special intense flavor from our farm). The chicken is local free range organic, I pounded some parsley, garlic, and cilantro in my mortar and stuffed half under the skin and mixed the second half with mustard and coated the whole bird and roasted it vertical (beer can) style.

Mmm, cinnamon.

Chocolate-vanilla cake.
Best vanilla pods, best local cacao, and lots of prime-time eggs.

(We've been a bit absent-minded lately, kept on buying eggs, I noticed yesterday there's 50 in the garage fridge. The beginning of a Fat Greek Egging week, have the starving Armenians and hungry US citizens to consider)

Last night my hip was hurting pretty badly. I normally alternate aspirin or Ibuprofen. Last night was Ibuprofen. In addition to the Ibuprofen, I ate two tsp of hab sauce with chips. Normally the Ibuprofen will knock the pain from 7/10 to 4/10, but with the hab sauce it went down to 2/10.

The only bad side effect was waking up at 2am and having to drink a glass of milk, but I got right back to sleep.

I think I met my match this weekend, I don't get fois gras snickers bars. It seems the latest thing for Chicago's hipsters to do is drop $$$ on fanciful cocktails and bites on the way to dinner. We were at Aviary Saturday night but just for drinks and then back home for leftovers (the nearly 2hr. drive in was an added feature).

We really enjoyed everything but the home made snickers bar with fois gras stuffing just made no sense to me (not too cheap either).

Got tired of hand cranking the meat grinder. Went to the appliance shop. All they had in electric were ones with such cheap looking parts, I wasn't about to part with $150. Went home and looked up on the internet. Found one I liked. Too many zeros on the price tag.

Hmmm...what to do? Out to the workshop, find a hex head bolt and use an extension so the off centre hole is not so wobbly and voila!
