I feel a bit proud to know Ian's works since March 1995 ("fast power amplifier" EW+WW) and to have provided the scan of his September 1995 EW+WW article on square law amps to Francis Brooke for analysis in 2008 (this article is available through the link to Francis Audio given by Ian in Linear Audio as well as in his supplement).
Some may be interested to know that Ian has also interest in loudspeakers and has published "Speaker feedback" in EW+WW May 1996, treating of negative resistance damping, negative current feedback and of an enhancement of a BJ. Sokol 's circuit able to do the same job as a Linkwitz Transform in the bass region but having the great advantage of being adjustable.

Indeed Forr, Ian is a very, very smart and sophisticated designer. I always have to hold him back - he could easily fill an L|A Volume all by himself.
I did approach him for writing precisely because of his earlier articles in EW & WW.
It is too bad that he never went commercial with his designs; with some good publicity backing he could have changed the amp landscape (and the speaker landscape).
But we should be glad that he thinks very highly of diy-ers and puts in a lot of effort to provide his ideas and designs.

Ben Kok is a great teacher, I speak of experience.
So is John Watkinson, he wrote the "bible" of digital audio. A very funny, highly intelligent person.
Hopefully you can persuade then to write some articles.

Something that the old Audio Amateur magazine lacked was a knowledgeable editor that could turn pages and pages of text and graphics into a readable article.
The thing is that while it certainly has evolved, it has not changed the market place.
In this post-factual society, guruship and a hefty advertising budget is enough, no: required, to make it in the audio market.
To be honest, run-of-the-mill audio equipment is now so good that it is almost impossible to differentiate your product on sound alone.

Yes, check out his infamous Stereo 70 upgrade, "The Brute," in a 1966 Stereophile issue. The reader reaction at the time was not favorable, though.
Actually, as Ed told me in my interview with him is that the negative reactions were from Stereophile readers who didn't want to be bothered with a technical design article, NOT the article in itself - they mostly 'didn't get it'.
This was the catalyst that drove Ed to start The Audio Amateur in 1970 iirc. Gordon Holt, Stereophile's boss, graciously lend Ed his reader data base.

BTW Had a very nice evening at one of our technical colleges in Eindhoven. We are trying to revive the NL AES Student Section. My co-comittee member Bert gave a pitch about the AES and the advantages for an audio-student to be a member of AEs and conversely the need of the AES for 'new blood'.
'We' the AES need to take charge of the new audio technology directions that are appearing above the horizon, and we need to interest the, what we in the Air Force called the BYF (bright, young and fanatic) types to invigorate the AES.
Great work if you can get it !
