Funniest snake oil theories

I don't think there are any breakthroughs.....I think it's mostly about noise shaping.

Dan, I feel that factors that influence the sound should be placed in one of two categories: either they genuinely reduce some elements of distortion; or they alter the character, the spectrum of the distortion without making significant overall improvement. I'm only interested in the former, and of course a lot of the snake oil thingamajigs, and allied 'treatments' and component choices are in the latter camp - a lot of wasted energy can go into the sound changers if one is not careful.

The 'breakthrough' is extracting highly acceptable, satisfying sound from unpromising material - this is where the majority of audio fails so dismally currently ...

No Frank they are both listenable to matey, one has OBs with 2x15 woofers a side, the other has Kef 104-2s, one is in one room another is in another room. I have said that I listen to them depending on my mood, amount of beer etc, I don't get hung up on the distortion my connectors cause, I am to busy listening to the music to care, sometimes I want 70s progressive rock from a LP through the class A SET (flawed as many here say) and sometimes the same of hard drive through the solid state. Sometimes I swap speakers and would like two wives one for each system. For the SET a dark beauty mysteriously hidden behind gossamer veils, for the other a tattooed female wagon driver would be adequate. One system is posh wine and canopies the other special brew and chips. The secret is to listen to the music:D
I would like a pair of SCM300 but cant afford so I suffer in silence (well not really as both systems will go to high SPL without distorting).

In their standard form they do both...distortion and character change.
In modified form perceived distortion is reduced without tonal change.

marce, if you're a happy man, who am I to take that away from you - apart from those SCM300s, of course ... however, I'm a pennypincher, I prefer one system to do the lot - just think, the savings in electricity bills alone!

I also have a pair of Curvy Changs in the garage (free to good home) and a collection of older CD players (CD63 etc) Teac tape deck blah blah blah littering the loft...just stuff you collect over the years and don't want to part with...
As to electricity I can only listen to one set-up at a time due to limitation on my number of ears.

Max, the air molecules bit is not from a Bybee, but from something Jack added to the box. I have an example of it here, and it does change the sound when applied. This 'box' is about the most esoteric component that Jack has yet attempted to make. My contribution is minimal, but gives improved above 20KHz filtering, and some lightning protection.
I don't usually bring up what Jack is working with today, because it would just create more controversy here.

John, I do admire your courage to believe your ears and to trust your assorted buds and buddies.

All the more so because the rational and well trained side of you must know all of this is BS, and that by coming out this way you risk your reputation as one of the greatest discrete analog audio amplifier circuit designers to ever walk this earth.
