Nice build, Paul.
Maybe I will put my next VCPre into a separate case as well.
By the way: where did you get the beautiful case from?

@Apnneto: I do no more have complete kits to sell.
I have some PCBs left, I have of course the pre-programmed PIC µProcessors, ...
You can get matched pairs of LDRs directly from Uriah Dailey, and the rest of the components can be ordered from MOUSER or FARNELL or ...
Find attached a picture of my build of the current VCPre V2.1 PCB.

Best regards - Rudi_Ratlos

Hi Rudi,
Thanks for your kind remarks. The case was from ebay although sadly the front panel linishing is not as good as it could be.

See : New Version Aluminum Case for PGA2311 CS3310 Preamp | eBay

Also in order to get a PCB to mount the LCD and IR sensor I also bought this :

PGA2311 Volume Panel IR Remote Preamp Kit with Infrared Remote Control | eBay

I wish there was a way to just buy the LCD mounting PCB. I did end up using the LCD from the kit above though. 9mm spacers are also required for mounting the display and power switch. Haven't been able to get the cheap remote that comes with it to work though. Probably is is RC5 but a different frequency.

Best regards, Paul

Remote

Thx.
BTW none of my remotes is compatible. Any idea which one to buy with less buttons involved ?

I have just received a pair (I prefer to have a spare...) o Sony RMx151 bought in Ebay. They are very smart, as the apple remote, but no so fancy....plastic vs aluminium. It have two rows of numbers from 1 to 6, vol+/-, ATT (mute) and OFF. I have not tried it but metal recommended it in this thread. See post #91

I am in the proccess of making a trial case in wood and MD because I am going to connect the VCPre output to a Hot Rod Hypnotize DCB1 buffer hoping to have the perfect passive preamp. If I got what I suppose, I will order to Modushop a custom case with all the holes well done....

Any considerations to be care on?

Regards,

Jorge

Ivan, google for: "Infrared Remote Control Unit RC5 compatible", and you will find several offers in the INTERNET.
Look for an old TV-remote control unit; in most cases, they will do it.

Do not go for an APPLE or SONY remote: I wonder, if they transmit data using the RC5 protocol.

I adjusted the LDRs of my current VCPre V2.1 build today (see image attached), according to the procedure that I have documented
in the VCPre's Builder's guide.

Uriah's LDRs are really well matched!

Hi Rudi,

No Apple and no Sony...but in post #91, metal talks about theSony RMX151 as an adecuate one...maybe I did not understand correctly?

Regards

When I wrote the code, I had RC5 supported only.

Where you read about the Sony remote is true, but I don't remember that I decided to move to it and add its support during the time that post was made, it was only a suggestion for an alternate remote. Rudi took the code and modified it to add some other functionality, but did not add any sony remote support.

I have the code that runs with sony remote, but yet it has to be tested before I think about releasing it to the public, at least the hex files to be programmed into the PIC.

Jorge: to connect the VCPre to a buffer and put it into a case of its own, is a very good idea. I appreciate.

I wonder, if your SONY RMx151 remote control units will work together with the VCPre. I suppose that they are using the SONY
proprietary SIRC protocol, not RC5.
I will ask METAL about the current status of SONY SIRC protocol support.

If you cannot find a suitable remote control unit, I will assist you getting one.

Hi metal,

Sorry to hear that...I understood that the Sony RMX151 remote was suported because it was a native RC5 protocol remote.

If you ever have time and consider adding support to this remote, I would like to obtain a programme pic, I will pay for sure...

Some times you win sometimes you loose....Anybody interested in a Sony RMX151 remote???:D:D:D:D:D

Jorge

Hi Rudi,

Thank you for your support...I appreciate.

If you have a link to a online shop for buying a supported remote, I would like to know. Also if metal someday support this sony remote, I will buy the PIC if you are able to sell it.

All the best and thanks again to you and metal for the hard work!!

Jorge
