. I had a guy helping me cut most of it and then I had to finsh putting them together and cut as well. Yes its the worst but, the most cool looking I think
. No baffles just the front wood glued to the both sides. The volume I don't knoe but, my next one will be done using the correct volume for the drivers. Hay if your near canton michigan stop over you can hear them any time
. Thanks it was alot of testing. I took a part the boxes 2 ta 3 times and I kept listening and had non-audio people come over and listen and they liked this the best. I did spend 20 or more hours working on the boxes and testing. Now back to the design and drawing board. Also they were at 37" inchs tall but, I guess I was not looking and forget to cut it down and is now at 40 or 41 inchs. Well have to make sure its done right the first time. jm

Does not stay sticky. I also tried a 3M "scrapbook makers" glue and a 3D fabric paint. All of these produce something about half the density of a hot melt glue stick. Denser and stiffer than RTV.
Sometimes volume is hard to calculate with "crazy shapes"....can away use 2 litter bottle with sand or cardboard box with shipping peanuts.
E.g. fill a 12" x 12" X 12" (or whatever size you need) cardboard box with peanuts and just pour them in the speaker box, (semi finished).
Even if math is a attribute, this is a final/double check.

Jim, the setup is very similar to the metronome except the metronome is better imho. The major difference is where the port is and definitely the port higher models better. However because the metronome has a port to the bottom and the bottom is sitting on a smooth floor it makes it a kind of double chamber. The other item is if you model the port on the side, the back or on the front you'll see major changes and with the metronome these changes even each other out.
The FF165WK would be a better driver without the peak. Also the FF85WK does not have the peak but its power is limited and so is the bass. The FF105WK may be an option.
We have our home on the market and when there is an "open home" I have some background music. Already I have had several requests for building a pair unfortunately health is prohibiting that. I am presently tossing up building a pair for in my office (the FF125WK were destined to go into the office but my wife has taken possesion of them) with either the FE103En or the FF105WK. The FE103E
is a cult driver in Japan and does not ahve the peak but excursion is limited and so is bass. From what I can gather on the FF105WK is that the peak / dips change when listening off axis which leads me to believe that a metal grill will improve things. I certainly found that to be the case on the FF125WK (needed a grill in a hurry so ordered the Fostex grills - they'll fit but you'll need to remove the raised paper ring on the FF125WK). Those who scoff at the idea: the LS3/5A used a grill on the tweeter, not for protection but for improving the HF response. It is true that they look ugly.

Well I wanted to say I did see the metronome awhile ago. I didn't build this diy box to copy or look like anyones else's speakers. I wanted to build something different and why not do a trapizod box as they call it. I didn't put the ports on the bottom,front but, the first ones were to low to the ground in the backs so I had to redue them again. (I spend over 3 weeks and hours trying to get it right rebuilding and going back and listening and do this over and over and over again and I think it's really close). I raised the port up alot in the back on the finished speakers.I cut out the hooe in the back of the speakers and used a tools to make the ports by hand very different to do. I had them blue but redid them to a black. The inside of the box design is very diffrent the way the wood is shaped and the way air flows out of the cabinet. It worked out good with the fe126en drivers and now with the ff125wk drivers. The Next box I build will have the right volume with the drivers I am using in this type of box. jdm
Yes I understand this price thing. I think fostex should be way cheaper on their speakers to be more price point friendly.
Well if you want to make me a carboard box and put peanuts in it for me as a scale model that would be great. The math can be a pain but, I will soon find out I hope. Jdm

My point is that I am not going to cut up and dope $50 speakers if I can do the same tests on $1.69 speakers. I am not trying to get a good speaker, just test different mod effects. I will then take what I learn to drivers that I would actually try to use.
Look at the features of the Vifa for $20, Mark, SB and others. Where assembled, number assembled, and lots of other factors lead to the price. For $57 I would expect a copper shunt and maybe a cast basket. I could do without the 10 dB breakup too.

yup, the 105 looks as bad as the 125.
But looking at the data sheet for this series it seems that the FF165WK has a smoother response - although I've not heard one myself it looks promising.
I'm still not hearing the "issues" with 125s that some folks gripe about (rather like the previous 127FE) , and along with MA Alpair 7.3 they'd certainly be on my short list for simple single driver FR system
but HP the FF85WK + add woofer(s) per your personal taste and you can make for a darn silly good system that punches way above their weight class

Yes for me at some point. If I pay $50.00 a driver I should be getting $50.00 a driver not paying for a middle man. I feel sometimes I really get short changed with fostex. The next best move is for fostex to redo the Fe series and start from ground zero. They need to put the banana fiber cone on the shelf for now. Then come up with a new type of cone and wizzer cone as well. I had one guy tell me why would you spend $50.00 on a fostex when you can get this brand over here with better frames and magnets and phase plugs and so on?This person will not even use a fostex due to this problem. I have had people ask me this? I said its like ice cram I like birthday cake and you like mint. No one is right or wrong everyone has different ears. Well dave you could e-mail me and I could tell you some thoughts I have but, for now I will keep this to a short post. Jdm
P.s. I forgot the F-120a driver the 5" inch fullrange $252.14 each? Seems to be alot for me? But, again maybe I am to cheap.
