Well, I think lead is fine for plates, glasses and sporks, but lining cardboard boxes with it? Best to just dig a big hole and line that with the lead, fill it back over and keep the unwelcome E Rays from disturbing the brain.... I understand tin foil hats work well too....

I was saying I am NOT lining cardboxes.
Anyway, never mind, its really not worth debating about. I am tired of it.
I just finished writing a 100 page report characterising the microstructure of 3 steels. The last thing I want to do is talk about that crap.
I come here for fun

I am just trying to apply what Budp is suggesting to try out

It may be worth noting that Bud's current speakers came out of our "labs". It will be interesting to hear how the ones we are currently building for him work (Bud's design for a 2-way naked OB to sit on top of the FonkenWoofTLs. They will be heading south with one of the guys from Seattle coming up for diyFEST.

Bud set up the XO, IIRC the Fonkens (that is what sits on top of the FonkenWoof) operate from 200 Hz up.

first dry fit of drivers - Lowther PM6A (always nervous handling that unit in workshop area) & Eminence Delta 8B

Is the midrange there to alleviate some of the excursion strain that the FR would see in an OB setup? Where are you crossing it? Also, will the thick spine mess with the backwave some?

excellent questions - as the builder I can only surmise that clearly, "yes" to the first, answers to the others by the designer - in this case Bud

my intuition is that while at 2.25" thick ( 3 layers of 3/4" bamboo plywood) the spine is narrower than the shadow of the both motor structures, and is as open as it can be and still provide the structural support and aesthetics Bud had envisioned, there still remain some surfaces parallel and close to the plane of the driver diaphragms that could cause some early reflection artifacts

but then again looking at the back side of this array while I'm typing this, the motor and support frames of both drivers (particularly the Eminence) include reflecting surfaces in even closer proximity to the cones

so time will tell - and if anyone could resolve any audible issues with these, it'd be Mr P

I was guessing it was more about getting a flat response and maintaining efficiency without using a whole heap of passive eq components which rob you of efficiency

So this sits on an Onken which takes care of the bass, is that right?

I am not sure why you wouldn't make the baffle 1" thick and make the bracing thinner (say 1"). I don't understand why it needs to be that thick, even 3/4" brace would probably be adequate.

Will there be an audible improvement going from 3/4" to 2.25" bracing knowing you are increasing the risk of audible reflections starting to become a problem?
