I trie both silicone grease and silicone oil, and both caused more damage than any good. I think the "muff" is a sintered brass, that soaks oil like any sintered sliding bearing, i.e. self-lubricating. I found the best is to clean the steel slidings with paper tissue and not lubricating it.
