The Chinese Borbely shunt used 2 sk170 instead of CRDs. I bought 200 of each CRD to get them.

I never heard JC 80 - i just thought it could be a better board to build Blowtorch on than bread boarding it. The Blowtorch schematic isn't published, but there's enough information in the first 100 pages of the Blowtorch thread - just use the highest IDSS V grade input devices you can find - John says most V grade aren't high enough so you want above 15 ma at least.

I have never used Kubota so not sure what you think I changed in it?

I have 4 Borbely super shunts on Borbely phono stage, 4 on Borbely preamp, 6 on upcoming Buffalo 3 dual mono with tridents with balanced Borbely IV converters, and 2 on Borbely cross over, and 2 on jC 80 / Blowtorch boards...so built 18 of the shunts...... Existing DAC is PMD 200 / BB1704 with Dexa regulators and Borbely IV stage from Jung super regulators. Over 150 Blackgates NX, N and FK on preamps and Dacs.. Borbely Mileniums biased at 100 watts Class A with 700,000 of (last 100,000 uf after chokes is Blackgates) powering modified Martin Logan CLX with Raven ribbon tweeters and Dynaudio 30w100 subs (mabe 4 JL audio 12w7 for subs and Raal ribbons if business is good this year)

You can guess i have no time, interest, or money for hockey, football, baseball, stock car racing, bowling, ..........

Apparently dirkwright made changes -- all I did was substitute LM334 with a resistor for the CRDs

Want me to toss a dozen NOS 36,5r Dales in with the soft-recovery diodes and caps?

Sure!

Let me know when you want payment and how much $ in total in a PM

I have a few Salas Shunt reg boards that I want to try out. Anyone with experience on these? The AMB o22 is also an excellent tracking regulator. Using two in my b24 amp and a spare that I was testing on JC-80.

Thanks

Just a few projects under your belt! ;)

How does the Milenium sound? Heard really good things about it. And all those Blackgates... Man! That's why there's no more hockey and football! :D

If you have a few of those CRDs you'd like to sell me, I would gladly replace the 2SK170.

Ciao!

Pinnochio which crd's do you want - how many of each?

Milleniums are very, very good - i heard CLX with Bryston at Montreal show and didn't like them - i find Bryston grainy and unresolving, I don't know what the fuss about their big mono blocks is all about they don't sound good... Unless you write for magazine with lots of Bryston ads.

Much, much better when driven by Milleniums. Very smooth like tubes , but with better resolution and detail. Wonderful highs and real bass control - likley 700, 000 uf gets some bottom end control and a soft start circuit.

I haven't made any changes yet to the Kubota. I haven't even built it. I'm still working on the box and I need the bare PCB to do the layout. They were just suggestions for improvements.

Rectifier pcb located

At last I have found the rectifier board I had purchased some years ago. A pair of these plus a pair of Kubota regulators and you will have the basis for the power chain Wolfsin is constructing. There is one small bit of rework required -- cut a single trace if you want to populate both thermistors.

ebay item#180741531497 is a pair of these pcbs for less than $11 shipped. Also available with capacitors. I will finish the power chain BOM asap now that I have located a source for these pcbs.

What output impedance and current supply of JC-80?

And is there a significant difference in JC-80 VS JC-2?

Hi FOXYE,

Current supply is around 230 - 270mA per rail
The output impedance is lowish but cannot remember... I'll have to look.

I have two JC-2 Revs which I bought on Ebay from Stanton and the latest rev. sounds really good! It is a SE preamp. I have only kept the transistors from the kit and changed everything else. Higher end components, although the ones that are included are good.

JC-80 is fully differential balanced preamp but also more advanced. a different beast!

Wolfsin... you beat me to it! ;)
