Hi, Nelson. Congratulations on the SIT-1 and -2. Wow - the damn things worked about as well as many of us predicted. The question is, how many devices do you have to make before a 100W single-ended or super-symmetry amp becomes a commercial reality ?

Can you do it with a multiple output device SiC JFet or will a single GaN Hfet-derivative device (HRL, Raytheon, et al.) be the ultimate answer ? Who knows, but we do know, today, that radar-derived Fets may be the key to the ultimate audio amplifier - Papa had the cajones to prove it.

B4 Crossover

The B4 crossover sounds nice. I could really be interested in that for an active crossover for a 3-way speaker I finishing up. But I planned on a 3 way active crossover, unless I should do the tweeter/mid crossover passively.

Will the PCBs be available to purchase separately or is this going to be a stand alone unit only? I could definitely use the boards to make a 3 way crossover. I was planning on going the discrete JFET route and this would be perfect for me!

At long last, the B4 design is complete and the first production run of PC boards is off being fabricated. Delivery of first units is scheduled for January 2012.

The B4 is a two channel active crossover filter system. It has 6, 12, 18 or 24 dB rolloff slopes independently selectable for each of 2 high pass filters and two low pass filters. The frequencies of each of these filters is also independently adjustable over two ranges: 20 Hz to 1260 Hz in 20 Hz steps and 200 Hz to 12600 Hz in 200 Hz steps. Each of the frequency setting of the four available poles can also be adjusted independently of the other poles.

The circuitry consists entirely of discrete single-stage Class A DC coupled Jfet buffers operated without negative feedback, providing distortion below .001% at 1 volt and bandwidth from DC to 500 Khz.

The input impedance is 100 Kohms and the output impedance is 100 ohms. The high-pass filters are provided with variable attenuation at 0, -5, -10, -15, and -20 dB. The low-pass filters are provided with variable attenuation via front panel knobs.

Any unused portion (or all) of a filter circuit can be bypassed.
