Is anyone heading towards the San Fran airport after the meet is over? I could use a ride.
I plan to find a hotel near the airport for sat night. if anyone knows of something decent in the area. There is a Ramada near there that has a free airport shuttle. I am thinking that may be my best option.

Anyone who wants to volunteer please consider coming to our orientation barbeque Saturday, Sept. 10 at 12:00 noon. It will be at Bill Berndts house in South San Francisco. It isn't required that you attend to be a volunteer, but it would help, and be fun too!

He'll post soon with directions.

Hey Guys, We need more high-end sources. Don't have to be DIY, but we need disk players, turntables, really good PC sources.. etc. Please speakup.. we can't listen without sources..

Sure, I can bring a CD source, a Sony CDP-XA20ES. It has variable outputs, which are hopefully blameless enough.

I know that there will be a couple of people with a DIY DAC in the Tesla room, e.g. Davygrvy, so this might be a good match for that. It only has Toslink (optical) output however.

I will have to see if i can rig up a Toslink input for my DAC. It currently has 3x SPDIF, 1 AES/EBU input and USB to play high rez files off a laptop i will bring. But YES a CD player to be used as a transport would be great.

I'm very interested in hearing USB off the computer. It that works well enough, I'm getting in line for one of those DACs. If we are tight on sources we might not be able to have the CD player/ USB together all the time. But essential to compare the two approaches one way or another..

I'll bring a Marantz DR 6000 CD player along with my other equipment. It's a decent transport and has optical and coaxial digital outputs so it should be compatible with a range of DACs.

Be nice if you brought a dish to pass. Let's start the BA party early.
Be great to get new blood, no experience necessary. Just bring your enthusiasm.
Looking forward to being part of a making BA more fun for everyone.

How are you handling donations for the raffle?

I'd like to donate two unique drivers to the raffle: Madison 21" prototype woofers, with the following specs (measured by me):

Madison X21 woofers

Driver #1:
Re = 5.3140 ohms
Fs = 31.4094 Hz
Zmax = 83.6849 ohms
Qes = 0.8914
Qms = 13.1458
Qts = 0.8348
Le = 1.7503 mH (at 1 kHz)
Diam = 450.0000 mm ( 17.7165 in )
Sd =159043.1184 mm^2(246.5173 in^2)
Vas = 308.2530 L ( 10.8859 ft^3)
BL = 18.7654 N/A
Mms = 299.3014 g
Cms = 85.7853 uM/N
Kms =11657.0078 N/M
Rms = 4.4933 R mechanical
Efficiency = 1.0069 %
Sensitivity= 92.0478 dB @1W/1m
Sensitivity= 93.8245 dB @2.83Vrms/1m

Driver #2:
Re = 5.2573 ohms
Fs = 31.7617 Hz
Zmax = 77.9740 ohms
Qes = 0.8520
Qms = 11.7840
Qts = 0.7945
Le = 1.7393 mH (at 1 kHz)
Diam = 450.0000 mm ( 17.7165 in )
Sd =159043.1184 mm^2(246.5173 in^2)
Vas = 295.5775 L ( 10.4382 ft^3)
BL = 19.3884 N/A
Mms = 305.2498 g
Cms = 82.2578 uM/N
Kms =12156.9033 N/M
Rms = 5.1695 R mechanical
Efficiency = 1.0445 %
Sensitivity= 92.2072 dB @1W/1m
Sensitivity= 94.0304 dB @2.83Vrms/1m

I don't have the specs on Xmax, but it is probably on the order of at least 7-8mm. These were a prototype pair and so they have slightly different (esp. lower Q) specs than the other 21" drivers produced by Madison.

I was originally planning to use these drivers in a large U-frame, but I don't think that I will get around to it with all the other projects on my plate. I've done some simulations, and I would be happy to share them with people.

So, do I just bring these along and then try to find Variac (Mark) that day or drop them off in the donation room?

I can bring a DEQX HDP3 powered by a Mac Mini music server running Pure Music with an AudioPhileo USB/SPDIF converter. I might also be able to bring a Bryston BDP-1.

I should disclose that I am in the industry but would be happy to help out.

Hi Folks,
I really wanted to come last year, but it was the day before I flew out on my first international business trip, and it looked a whole lot like rain. I have a couple of high efficiency speakers that could also go in the high power room to strip the paint off the floor. I could also bring a pretty good turntable & phono pre and a pair of HH Scott 240 Laboratory amplifiers I rebuilt. I would totally recommend the secret stealth cheapskate digital audio source: Apple's Airport Express. Is there a plan to put up a network to share music around the event?
The most important equipment I could drag up is a two faucet beer jockey box with a two channel cold plate and CO2 tank.

Cheers,
Marshall

Yeah, I'll be pretty visible. Or just tell someone else in a red shirt what's up and they should get a helper for that load! and carry them upstairs for you.

That is a GREAT donation, sure would be fun to play with! and thank you.
We try to have various items and for the raffle people have to declare which they want in advance. The idea being that we want them to get into the hands of people who will use them. So far, not as much swag as previous years, so any donations will be appreciated!

I think that's great the way the "industry" helps out the show. Clearly they aren't making huge sales from us!

That sources seems perfect Nyal- love to hear it.

Well rain shouldn't ever stop you! We're indoors. Stick your stuff in plastic bags.. Although I hope that the weather will be perfect to have lunch outside. That's one reason we took the Oct 1st spot, October is usually the best weather in S.F. The next weekend is the Blue Angels at Fleet Week-not good for listening sessions or traffic or crowds! The weekend after that is the Rocky Mountain Audio Festival in Denver, and we don't want to have a conflict with them. Yes, some of us go to that show. So we were lucky to get such a great date!

The beer apparatus appeals, but we've decide to go with bottles and cans just to have one less thing to mess with setting up. Maybe next year if we pull off this "Much Better Organized" thing which I'm positive we will.

These are a huge help and I would love to hear the Scott "blast from the Past!" so bring them! : "a pretty good turntable & phono pre and a pair of HH Scott 240 Laboratory amplifiers"

Maybe the "PaintStrippers in the Big Room in case we decide to rock out there in the afternoon. Assuming you think they sound pretty good. but I suspect they aren't easy to transport!

I'll update the list on the second post of this thread:

Well, I've never HEARD a Tubelab Simple SE. If yours is functional tell me and I'll assign you to a room. what output transformers are you using?

We certainly need help. We'll be having a barbeque get-together for volunteers soon to get everyone on the same page..

Mark

I too have a SimpleSE that should be ready... it is well burnt-in, I just need to get the chassis fixed-up.

I'm using the large Edcors. We could have a SSE bake-off! :)
