Hi T.O. - BudP got me started on EnABL back a couple of years ago when I was butchering up my Walsh 5 remakes. We started discussing his EnABL process and it branched out to his threads about "how to do it" along with all of the various discussions about snake oil and a pinch or two of powdered toad - plus how to apply brush strokes. Then to add insult to injury he came out with those little hangy downy thingies that play with ground loops!!!:eek:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~snip~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
BTW - a big Thank You for your new letters!!! Man - that is one heck of a club ya kids have going!!!!
We have a little Nashville Audio Society meet this coming weekend - I'll keep you posted.
Well, it's over. Last night we decided that I'd go first, then Bud, as my topic is really preparatory to his. He ran a couple of videos from a laboratory in Britain that dealt with wave analyses and then actually started playing some music. He began with a pair of untreated (Fostex 126 drivers) Fonkens, let it play for a bit before switching to the treated Fonkens, which had Fostex drivers from the same production run.
As one new member (an Electrical Engineer) said when Bud switched over to the treated pair:
"Holy Mother of God! What an improvement!"
After playing music and switching back and forth for awhile, there were a lot of questions and much interest in the enAble process, but also in the Planet 10 Fonkens, which were visually quite stunning.
Fun evening, I wish I could go a bit more into detail, but I've received an invitation from Doc Bottlehead for a private Audio Play-Day later today. He wants to mess around with my focused arrays, and we'll be trying out his electronics on it. Can you imagine serial SET amps to drive them?
(Besides, he said he's buying the beer:D)
Best Regards,
TerryO
You might want to examine the Modafferi patent that references this one
Phase shift low frequency loudspeaker system
An audio speaker system is disclosed providing improved fidelity of performance from overdamped woofer drivers in small sealed enclosures. At least two woofer drivers are employed, and are driven electrically in such a manner that the phase difference in the electrical signals to the two drivers, or sets of drivers if more than two are employed, will be near zero at the lowest bass frequency and will increase to a value up to 180 degrees at the highest bass frequency which is generally taken as the woofer-midrange crossover frequency. This aforementioned phase difference in the electrical signal inputs to two sets of woofers common to one sealed enclosure improves over prior art by providing increased low-bass acoustic output, less acoustic wave interference between the woofers and the midrange drivers, and a smoother input impedance characteristic in the bass frequency region.
Rgds
I downloaded that one! I don't have time to give it a careful reading right now so I will save it for tonight.
One issue I did notice on a drawing was “acoustic mobility analogy of air inside box 10”. I wonder how atmospheric pressure at various altitudes might affect the operation of the unit???? Maybe it needs a pressure gauge on it somewhere along with an air pump............... :D:D:D
Terry: never turn down a beer with Dan, maybe he'll break out the martini shaker later on
take the taxi home
Hi Chris,
After drinking my usual amount, I drove home sober.
BTW, which Fonkens (and I think you mean FE127)
Chris, that was my mistake. The Fostex convention of 6's and 7's always get me screwed up.
yup, the polka dots just don't quite make sense - except musically
The video presentation certainly cleared up a great deal of the mystery surrounding the ebABLE treatment and showed that there is actually a fair amount of objective evidence that backs up what Bud has maintained for years. I think what impressed me the most was that Bud's subjective impressions, intuitive understanding and reasoning ended up so (very, very) close to what has now been shown to be an actual physical phenomenon.
(Let's get back to the main topic, I apologize for the digression.)
Best Regards,
Terry
Bud has a ebABLE treatment now!!!! WOW - and you say you drove home sober - hmmmmmmm........ :rolleyes:
Video presentation???? Man - I would like to see that! Can you "YouTube" it???
Now back to our regular sponsored topic....... :cool:
