The Boominator - another stab at the ultimate party machine

It was a stupid mistake. Hooked them up to my standard HiFi amp with the intend not to go above 10% power. After fiddling with it I got up to check the sound from the other side and my knee managed to rotate the volume button of my amp to around 80%. Bye bye HP10W's..

Btw, I am now in the process of buying some GW1058's from the US so I can continue with the project. But a thing that struck me when assembling the boominator - Saturnus you earlier recommended to glue the HP10's to the bracing in the middle. But as far as I can see, there is a hole in the backside of the HP10 - wouldn't covering this hole make the sound shitty?

No, all data of the driver is measured with the hole covered, and covering the hole permanently together with the port being tuned with too high air speed limits cone excursions under the tuning frequency which would otherwise be a problem because of the overtuned cabinet.

To be honest, **** happens. I mostly have fun while I'm breaking stuff. The thing that saddens me the most is not the cash it will cost to replace it - but the fact that they were probably the last 4 HP10's in Europe :-/

Does anyone know how long it will take to ship 4 GW1058 drivers to me in Denmark?

Edit: I want to be better protected this time, what values would 4 "sikringer" (the english word escapes me) for the speakers have to be?

And is it deadly important for the speakers to line up perfectly? Mine were misaligned by around 1 cm :-/

No idea how long it takes.

Don't use fuses, just don't use your home amp but the right amp, or put tape on the volume knob. or something.

It's pretty important they line up almost perfectly. One cm off is too much in my opinion.

Like Joak I believe the time for looking for maximum sound quality and the most bass and so forth is over. I just want to know if there is any speaker out there I can fit in the cabinet which won't sound like UTTER crap. It's not like people are gonna know the difference when they are drunk :-/

Please help us out here Saturnus - people in this thread don't do it enough but, thanks. It's impressive that you take the time to help all of us and most of us forget to thank you.

I just looked at it, and it seems fine - but how much of an issue would the lack in that midrange be? Would it be extremely noticeable outside when listening to high music, or would I be able to compensate for it in some way?

I have some old Cerwin Vega piezos lying around, any way to test if those will go down to 2500 hz?

Picarro... You can use the IMG Stageline SPA-10PA which will fit into the same cabinet with marginal differences on paper (will have to be fieldtestet). The problem, as already mentioned before, is that you need a piezo that will go down to 2500 hz, which the Motorola replica will not.

The P.Audio PHT-407N goes down to 2000 Hz but they are quite expensive.

I am using the P.Audio HP-10W (mid & bass), P.Audio PHT-407N (tweeter) and AMP9B together in my build of the Boominator.

Making the crossover at 2250 Hz.

You could measure them I guess if you have the proper equipment.

If you connect your current piezos to the SPA-10PA you will probably lack output in frequencies between 3000-4000 hz with up to 5 dB/w/m (just by looking at this response)

Now I have bought the Img Stage-Line SPA-PA :(

I'll have to upgrade to the HP-10W next year.. And I'm not gonna replace my tweeters, so I'll have a gap in frequencies :(

I still have ONE (f***ing) HP-10W left.. So if anyone has 1 or 3 HP-10W's then you can buy mine, or ill buy yours :)

Or if anyone has an interesting idea on how to use only one HP-10W for some kind of boombox, please come forward ;)

Buy another Amp6 and build something like 1/4 Boominator? :D And I am gonna gave to go with those SPA-PA's too..

Well.. intertecknic.de said that I would get 1 now and then the rest in the beginning of June.

But now I just asked them if it still was June, because it said July in the webpage.

And they said july :( :(

So I'm stuck with 1 :p

and Actually I have 3 Lepai Amps :p so I'm gonna try the 1/4 boominater (not gonna be good) that is if Intertechnick.de wont take my speaker back.
