We opened for Savoy Brown a couple of times. In the old days they had more guys in that band then I could count it seems like but at the time we opened for them (about 1983) they were down to being a 3 piece. Kim Simmons on guitar. He was really good. Not a very nice man but a great guitar player.
The Texas music scene is not what it used to be. Especially the heavy rock scene. But even the blues scene down in Austin is not what it was in the 80s. A really good friend and former bandmate of mine played guitar for Johnny Reno for a long time. His name is Paul Boll.

Depends on your definition of "heavy rock." I've been blown away by some of the guys playing here in the Zappa vein.
I like that but my definition of Heavy Rock would be everything from say UFO to Boss Tweed (the Texas one) to Napalm Death to Cannibal Corpse. So I guess you could say all but not limited to genres of metal and hard rock. An older Texas band Blackhorse (late seventies that is) I would say on the lighter side and another Texas band from not too long ago called Pantera on the heavier (but not heaviest) side. There is a new Texas band called War Beast that is really good. Their members were formerly from Rigor Mortis, Puncture, Hammerwitch and at least one other band but I am drawing a blank right now.
No, the only guitarist named Paul that I know is my brother, Paul Semrad, who was the bass player for Course of Empire. Now that was some good Dallas rock.

He has jammed with Robert Ealey, Jack McDuff, Boss Tweed, Osirus, Johnny Red and the Roosters and many others. He is a great guitarist and a great guy. He and I started playing guitar at the same time when we were both 12 years old and we played together constantly until we both joined different bands at about 16 years old.
Yes you are just north of me maybe 10 or 20 miles at the most. Here is another guy who is blowing everybody away all over DFW. This guy is the hardest working musician I have ever known. He has played with Boss Tweed, Hammerwitch, A Million Pounds, and now he is doing solo stuff as in all by himself. His name is Darrin Kobetich. Those who know me, knows that I'm a big fan of guitar rock, and a big concert fan
My favorites are Thin Lizzy (John Sykes), Guns and Roses, Velvet Underground, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Ritchie Blackmore, Angelo Batio etc.
Can someone guide me to find artists playing similar kind of music, and perhaps link me to free listening samples ??
I need to "pimp up" my collection
Besides that I'm a big fan of so different styles like Genisis, Saga, Mike Oldfield and many other artist not known outside Denmark
