I think the bigger question is; was it designed properly and does it hiss like an angry cat?

when hiss out like angry cat there are must lots of problems with PCB route.especial in SMPS+CLASS T topic, the background noise should very low,It will larger when parts position or PCB route no right.

Many people (include chinese)feel easy to build a class D or T switch amplifier, but I think "Innocence Abroad “,professional development
engineer never say easy ,try and try ,more and more time revise, sound will better, the demo board out of "hi-fi",only toy.

Our new TA2022+SMPS board debuging!this is first version, there also have low hiss noise now,we have jumped some parts, lower noise still can be heard by high sensitive tweeter.

We have to revise the second version for better parameters.

Nice....

Why are there 4 output inductors?

I don't think you will ever completely get rid of that little bit of hiss; it's just the nature of these Tripath IC's.

TA2022 Angry cat run away!

I found VN10 is so important for this amp, noise always come from here.EB-TA2022 may not attention to this question, this question isn't linear or switch supply, key point is voltage,PCB route also important,I 'm not draw along with TRIPATH EB-TA2022,We haven't ebay shop,if guys have other question pls send mail to me,my mail:authlxl@gmail.com

I have finished the first version, found some question and revised it .the second version will debug next weekend,We believe it will work well at that time.

Fixed specification (tested):

POWER OUT:2×100W/4Ω/1%THD+N,2×85W/4Ω/0.1%THD+N
SENSITIVITY:0dB
INPUT IMPEDANCE:10KΩ
POWER SUPPLY:90-265vac 50 OR 60Hz (T4A FUSE INSIDE)
FREQUENCY RESPONSE:20-20KHz ±1dB

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

I wired it up this board from the OP today and Hooked it up to my iPod intitially just to make sure it worked.

Later I hooked it up to my Decware CSP2. I'm only using a cheap RCA to DIN patch cord right now but this combination makes these little ADS speakers sound quite nice!

I was concerned about background hum but the noise floor is not bad at all. After I get a box for it, and a better RCA jack connection with proper chords, I'll provide a more detailed review but right now this little guy is driving these 4 ohm speakers with authority.

FLAC>MediaMonkey>ASUS STX>Decware CSP2>Tripath TA2022(with 2x24 300W, and 2x6 2.2amp transformers)>ADS L300i

wonder how it will drive the Soliloquys 6.5's? Hmmmm

I hooked up some better RCA terminals and speaker lugs today. Just for kicks I hooked the amp up to my First Sound line stage and Soliloquy 6.5 speakers today. They are not a match for the Primiluna Mono blocks but I was greatly impressed! It sounded much better than I was expected. Warm, full, and smooth sound. Not as much air, depth and soundstage as the Primaluna but the notes coming out the the primaluna's were confident.

Should say notes coming out of the Soliloquys were confident.

Here is the board built as a power amp (no volume).

This thing is dead quiet.

I must say it sounds quite sweet driven by a Decware CSP2 into a couple of ADS 300e speakers.

ok,stoutblock, you do excellent works,I want ask if it backgroud noise quite lower,I have to revise our new TAS2022 board and debug it now, sound quite clear, but I have to choose which is best active speaker amplifier or Hi-Fi and pro audio amplifier.
I want make it Hi-Fi and Por audio amp in the begining, but I find make it as active speaker amplifier also good choose.

Without test equipment and both products I'm not sure I can help. I can tell you with these big transformers and good grounding this board is working superb. I would not call the noise floor black but it is very, very dark down there.

I think the transformers are key and there is not much room in speakers for these big guys.

Also realise I am driving this with a Decware CSP2 which adds a great deal to the sound stage and warmth I am hearing.

I hooked it up to my ADS L1090s today and played some SACD Monk. I was very impressed!

Well I spent the evening trying to hurt this amp and it put up a great fight. Hooked it up to system #2 using the First Sound line stage and driving the Soliloquy 6.5s. It does a fine job and I have to say it is really quiet. It may have a lower noise floor than the Primalunas? Most noticeable is the bass has the punch of a SS amplifier and the high end is way forward compared to the tube amps. I did notice Bill Evans Piano was not quite as tonal and the notes did not carry on with as much depth.
It actually sounded pretty darn good and had respectful control of these big speakers (92db). I played some tracks from the Stones BB SACD at quite high volume and it rocked the room with a solid wall of sound. This little cheap amp should not drive these speakers so well and sound so impressive!
After about an hour I checked the temperature of the heat sink and I could not hold my finger on it for more than 4 seconds. On went the computer north bridge fan. This little guy makes no noise at all, and seemed to do the trick. After another hour of play, the heat sink was medium warm to the touch.
I decided to try the soliloquys bi-amped with the Tripath driving the 3 woofers and Primaluna driving the midrange and tweeter. Very nice combination! I can see why people like the SS and tube amps together in bi-amp. High frequency was more laid back and the midrange was buttery yet the bass had more respectful authority and speed.
I would consider the Tripath amp more aggressive than the Primlauna mono blocks. Its not harsh, or bright, and actually may be a little warm for a SS amp. Most noticeably is the depth and width of the soundstage is not comparable to the tube monos. The Primalunas make these speakers disappear. Considering they are over 10x the cost as Stoutblock #1 I can't complain

My first DIY amplifier is complete. I am very pleased with the results. I was looking for something to drive the ADS L300e speakers in my office system. When I work late at night, I normally listen to my Beyerdynamics DT880 and CSP2 combination, and it sounds exceptional, but I would just as soon not have these cans on my head during normal hours of listening in the office.

4 coats of hand rubbed finish.
