normally the setup is such that I pull up to shore where 500-700 boats are on any given weekend and we turn the music up as loud as we can for about 8 hours and sunbath, play volleyball and drink heavy .

Wow! What kind of batteries are you using? I can't imagine that you can power up that system for 8 hours without firing up the boat to charge them. Sounds like a great way to spend a Saturday;)

ok I am upping my budget on the boat project.. need more sound... any ideas?? I still have up to 55" for length of the horn box 16 for depth and 10" high.. must have the port on the side which is 10" high or could have a side and top combination as shown in pictures on previous page.. Please help the cause .. thanks!! FYI I did just put in the 6xs crossover with the subsonic which seemed to help as I am able to bring wattage up a little bit higher now without fears of a song dropping a death note to my subs..

A. can you 'go around the corner' for more space. aka, "L" shape for subwoofer enclosure.

B. where did you set your PFM on your audio control? It needs to be at least 40hz high pass, prefer about 45 at 18db/oct.

C. are you SURE you won't consider a pa processor, like the dcx2496? It'll let you manage your current xmax spike, and get a few more db out of your system.

D. is going big power drain, and high excursion drivers (think kilowatts here) an option? Since you are running 12v, I'm assuming efficiency is key -- right?

E. If 130db is possible at 1M, is that enough like you've said before, or do you have higher aspirations?

ha lol.. well efficiency is a big thing as I only have limited battery time.. I think everything reasonable is in play. my goal is just to make sure that i am by far the loudest boat on the cove.. . the dcx looks very nice but I am not sure about throwing in the converter yet :/

lol.. for only an extra $140 there we go.. hey can you model this sub quick for me?

Can you post your hornresp calcs.. I just want to make sure I am putting mine in correctly as I am still learning.. much appreciated.

nice 15, what is it? It still doesn't do any better than 125db, like your dual kickers.

What 'exact' diameter are your kickers, aka, 9.8" 10.2", etc... I'm trying to see if a triple kicker TH is possible with the drivers vertical instead of laying down. The triple should just hit 130.

ok here we go.. subs are 10.2" I just measuered and looked at the space and with removal of a back panel here is what we got for magic... 55" long 10.5" high x 20 " deep.. my thought is what if we kind of tripod them as close to the side as possible.. although I am not sure how to wire 3 - 2ohm speakers so that I do not go below 2 ohms.. I could quick sell these and purchase 3 of the 4 ohm same model?? still have to vent out of the side unless we do the idea where i have the flip up seat and I can make extra vent room there ???

OK, here's an odd-ball suggestion. maybe djk or flipc can tweak this double manifold some.

It's a set of eight mcm 55-2421's. 8'' High Excursion Woofer | MCM Audio Select | 55-2421 (552421) There are discount codes to get them for $25 or so each, so it's only $200 in drivers. Since they are 4ohm, it's an easy task to get a total 2ohm load for your amp. In push-pull fashion (half the magnets are showing and wired out of phase) distortion is minimized. Also 80hz 'sounds' louder than 40hz, this will sound very loud, just not as deep. However with 135db available... and a little creative eq, it'll probably fill the 80's rock, loud but not deep sound pretty well. An addition of this http://www.waves.com/Content.aspx?id=337 may make this sound better than the spl chart suggests.

arrgh... apologies... for anyone who knows what a 55-2421 should look like in hornresp... that's not it. I forgot to paste driver when I did this, and the above spl chart is for 8 kickers, not 8 mcm's. It was late... I goofed.

Here is (grey) the 8 mcm, vs the dual kicker tapped (black)

I guess I don't have much else for you.

Yes, Eight 8" subs in a dual manifold gets you a few db more than the dual kicker tapped horn.

I think it's possible to shoehorn in 10, and that will level out your response at 130, instead of dipping down a couple db in the 80hz range.

The downside is that you would most likely end up at 1.6ohm, and I think you wanted to stay at 2.

does that sound interesting to you?

use your full 10.5 x 20 x 55 dimension and brace it well. Use about 5 - 5.5" offset on your drivers. (mcm's have a 4.5" mounting depth) Port is 4.5" x 9.5 x 6" long.

AFL909 discount code will get you 10% off, and shipping is free.

I'd see if some of the other guys kick in any suggestions on how to make this better before building/ordering. I'm not sure on the distance of the manifolds to the port. I know that in your case you need to keep the 'openable' area to 30" or less, as 20" or so sticks into a corner, so I kinda jammed them all together.

The good news is that the MCM box doesn't have xmax issues at 50-60hz, so the need for the dcx2496 isn't there, the audio control should work, just set your PFM to 40hz.

This is not as 'efficient' as the dual TH, but is louder, so consider that in terms of battery time.

Since you've done 155 at the dash, I'm sure I don't need to say anything about wiring, etc...

if you build this, post pics.
