I'll write up something about my experiences as soon as I get my digital camera back. I'm very happy with my Tube/MOSFET combination. No NFB, all single-ended class-A. The main reasons for trying a Tube/MOSFET hybrid circuit would be to try to retain the tube loveliness while still being able to have hordes of power at your disposal. Well, I'm using my MOSFETS in single-ended class-a so they aren't too high in the power area, somewhere around 40 watts.

Bythe way I am looking for Moscode schematics - does anybody have them?

This is the schematic overview from harvey Rosenberg's "Understanding Tube electronics" (a 100+ page advert for his New York Audio Labs products).

Something like this or a Zen with a tube buffer would be interesting.

Hi, forum.

I was wondering why it's so hard to find DIY projects of tube/mosfet hybrid amp. Is it because hybrid stuffs cannot make better sound than all-tube or all-solid-state stuffs? What I would like to build is the one using tubes at input stage and solid-state (probably mosfet) at output stage. Any idea, experience or link to a website?

Lot of ideas, lot of experience, lot of commercial secrets. But I promise to make one available for DIY when I will have some time to sit concentrated few hours...

I used the circuit in figure5 with a irf710 or something like that and a 6n1p
http://www7.taosnet.com/f10/figure3-4.gif
as input stage for a couple of years.. Now it was a few years ago , but I have only good memories of it..
From memory it was 10meg to half of supply and ca200ohm to mosfet gate then some 2k or something on source..
It was followed by some fet stage like in the schematic above but more like the http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/5913/6922.html
Also did this circuit http://digilander.libero.it/essentialaudio/hybrid_circuit.htm
Hmm.. but I did'nt use it very much, it was only as an experiment.

You can pick them up on ebay.

I am will try to help-in the hybrid factor

I am a 40 yr electronic engineer. I worked for Counterpoint Electronics on the SA-100/200 and so on. I also design and build the power, output, and inter-stage transformers in Vista, CA.. My boss's name was Mike. A great boss and true friend.

I have schematics for the Moscodes, Futterman OTL1 to 4, Counterpoints and Carver. But George Kaye is a dear friend of mine. So before I let go of all the items that he gave me, back in 1986. I must ask his permission. As you know, Moscode is his life. And the bass fiddle is his passion. My passion is playing jazz on my Eppi Les Paul Custom.

I have Mosfet designs of my own, and they sound great. And behave beautifully. But they are small. 20-30 watts. I believe that if you can not hear 20-30 watts of power. You should visit your doctor.

Besides, cost is a driving factor of mine. I feel $60.00 dollars is enough to spend on any amp project. If you can not build yourself a good junk part box. Then you are in the wrong hobby.

I love only one speaker, A7's or A8's. I like Boston Acoustics as well.

Let me know and we start as early as 01/18/10.

Take Care

Hey Ivey,

On the OTL1 do you happen to have the seperate power supply schematic as I have the actual amp side and power for that but I am missing the regulated power supply schematic and I have a pair of OTL1's that I need to rebuild. Has GK given you the go ahead? I have spoken with GK a few times since I also own a JF H3 and a pair of NYAL OTL3's which GK helped me with rebuild info on a few months back so any help you can give would be great. Thx

Yes, I have all of it, tube and solid state.

What do you want?

They are all about the same. The solid state and tube, are used on the Moscodes as well. Same design, just a different twist.

Let me know and I will dig them out for you.

Take Care

Thx Ivey,

What I need is the NYAL/Futterman OTL1 schematics for both the amp side and the regulated power supply side. My email address is anthony.naso@hotmail.com if you can send them there that would be great. Thx again
