Hi Chris,
Can't abuse what you haven't used. :D Seriously, not a big deal at all - anything you need made up. Hand draw the layout even.

The boards came:

They look really good.

...
Let me organize things a bit. Ideally I wanted to offer (for those interested) a short kit with PCB, front panel, simple enclosure that everything fits in and the correct jacks that fit the board. I see a lot of threads shipping a lot of boards for other stuff but nothing seems to get finished. It's a shame to spend money on a PCB and have the wherewithal to finish the project.

You got my full attention... :spin:

Hi duda,
Getting it together and I'll post later tonight with the details...

Hi John,
Those boards look really good ... I especially like the corporate symbol!
Nice job sir.

Thanks Chris,
My first real professional boards and I'm impressed by the quality. They are from Myro and I'll be using them again for sure.

Hi John,
I'm impressed as well. If I ever do anything good, I should try them also. I'll have to ask you if I contemplate this. The only board house I can remember is C-C Crimp circuits. The samples I have seen at trade shows are extremely good, yet they don't look like high rent.

So, I guess you didn't like the looks of my speaker testing box, eh? :)
No problem, that box has got to be from 1979 or 1978 I'd guess. A lot of drivers were tested for T/S parameters on that thing. One thing I did learn was that it pays to run your own tests as opposed to trusting the driver data sheet!

I should have a good, long look at your creation again. I may build one (it's smaller than mine for one). I'm sure your's has better performance as well.

For those of you who might wonder how bad it gets, the way I measured dB was with a Vu meter (a real one) driven with an op amp with adjustable gain to allow for arbitrary references to be used. In mine, I did use a precision 10 ohm calibration resistor, built in. The resistance of the cable to the driver was noted on the case. It worked years ago, but now we have much better hand-held and bench meters, and far better op amps. My box is only good for low frequency use and I think I may have used a 741 as a meter amp. Could have been anything, including 5534, 5532, 1458, 4558 or even an LM318 (I doubt I wasted one of these on that!).

Don't do this the way I did! See, John took one look and designed his own - it is that bad!

As long as it works - that is what counts (looks are a bonus, but if she is a good cook and behaves herself, she's a keeper :D)

I was tired of the rigmarole every time I wanted to test a driver or speaker - finding cables, figuring where each one goes, hooking up an amp and praying it doesn't blow the soundcard, etc. This jig is simple and to the point - it is easy to connect and it has it's own low distortion amp. Small portable package.

Ordering these 10 boards from Myro was a test, I'd read good comments on their service but hadn't seen a board that they produced. Shipping is a bit of a killer at $35 but for a bigger order it wouldn't be bad, plus they are HQed in Canada so no duty or brokerage fees. Pretty fast too.

Can you specify another shipper, or EMS?

UPS Customs is just plain ignorant when it comes to customs and clearing charges. Even if you could set up your own clearing house, that would help. Probably add a couple days to the trip in.

Where is Myro? In Canada or in the USA?

Hi Chris,
No, they ship UPS only. They are in Canada - in Kanata but all of the PCB manufacturing is done in China apparently.

Ok, here goes. Some options I can offer:
1. Board only - $12.00 plus $5.00 shipping worldwide

2. Board plus jacks and switches - $23.00 plus $5.00 shipping worldwide.

2A. Board plus all electronic parts (switches, resistors, diodes, chipamp, etc) - $38.00 plus $7.50 shipping worldwide.

3. Short kit - $48.00 plus $10.00 shipping worldwide.

NPX_150.JPG

Includes PC board, jacks and switches, front panel, back panel, basic enclosure (paintable) and bonus LED :D

4. Full kit - $62.00 plus $10.00 shipping worldwide. It has everything in the short kit plus all of the caps, resistors, diodes, TDA2030, banana jacks.

Not included is the power supply which is a 12-24VAC, 1 amp wallwart with a 2.1mm ID, 5.5mm OD barrel power plug on the end.
Shipping is the cheapest possible and has no tracking or insurance. If you feel the need for faster or more secure shipping contact me.

The success or failure of this depends on how quickly the 10 boards I have go. I would like to maintain this service as an ongoing thing but it will be demand driven - if the first 10 boards go fast I will feel encouraged to press on and order more.
I will repost this in the swap meet forum also (if that is the appropriate place for it - some guidance from a helpful mod or two would be appreciated)

Please PM me with your "order", including your mailing address.

Hi John,
Just start a thread like normal. It may have to go through a moderation process first, there are an incredible number of bots hammering most forums these days.

If it doesn't work, just let me know and I'll fix it. I'm heading out right now, but I'll be back in a couple hours.

Ok, most of the boards are spoken for but many have not paid. Payment up front is needed before shipping and also "stamps your name" on one of the limited number of boards I have at this time. If you have changed your mind and want to back out, I will understand and appreciate being told early so that another who is interested won't be turned away.

Sorry if this seems harsh but I would like to do this without chasing down payment - that would rub all the fun out of it for me. :)

Hey John!,
That's excellent! Looks like a number of people are interested and your kit erases all worries about not being able to find the proper parts.

Very nicely done Sir!

I would think this information and your design would be of interest to any speaker builder, even the single driver people. Maybe drop a note in that area as well? I would hate to see anyone miss out who could really use one of these.

-Chris ;)
