I think I've found yet another donor box......
The JVC RCBX330 looks to be the same mechanism as well.
I have since purchased one- and will be dismantling it when I get a chance. This one looks to have been made for the Western market- and also looks easier to get.
That is, until all of us fanatics have bought all of them!!
Anyway, FYI.....

I'll second the last post: Amazing!
Have you described how it sounds - what hi end units have you compared it with?
Yes it is all in this thread...have fun
Erik - nice to see the puck in use!!
Tony X: check the crystal and also try changing the mechanism. Are you sure that its hitting the end of travel switch ok?
Post some photos here if you can....
Fran
Hi Woodturner,
Excuse my ignorance, but how do you check a crystal?
I did change the mechanism with a brand new one and got the same result.
Hits end of travel switch OK.
I have checked and rechecked that the strip wires are inserted and contacting correctly. I cannot find any damage anywhere.
Here are a few photos.

Sorry for the confusion - what I meant was, if you replaced the stock crystal, reflow the solder joints. If you haven't touched the original, then no point....
When you fitted the new mechanism, did you remove the little solder blob?
Fran
Hi Fran,
Which little solder blob did you have in mind?
Yeah found it - have a look at this post:
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/digi...ansport-shigaclone-story-209.html#post1634796
IIRC, its the little blob there just to the left of where the ribbon cable is soldered on that pic When you remove it you will see that the 2 traces don't actually meet underneath.
You must remove it for the new mech to work. The new ones from ebay etc all have that blob. However, if your "replaced" mech is from another boombox, it will have had that blob removed already.... does that make sense!?

Thanks, Fran. It now works a charm without that blob.
Peter,
first of all i want to thank you for sharing this great project with us!!! I had just started with the project a week ago and for now i'm still using the stock PS. The transport has been running for almost a week now for 3hrs aday without problem.
My next job is to do the PS and the mods you currently recommend.
i just want to make sure that ill be doing the right things.
1. for PS. can i use elna silmicII (and or) nichicon KZ instead of BG? will BG be better?
2. remove R5 and E5 and choke. Or remove R1-R5, E5 and choke. is this also ok or leave R1-R4?
3. where can i get those aluminum buttons that you tape to the controls?
Thank you

on ebay there is this: JVC model RC-NX1.
maybe someone know if the cd player can be used for the shiga?
I can't found this unit. Can you send me a link?
I have just bought an demo ez51 cheap and fired it up,just digital out.
But i have an crackling sound coming out and it doesnt matter what resistors i choose.
I have tried my Quatafire external sound card the Super Pro box.
Just crackling.
But if i connect it to Behringer DCX2496 it works and i have very high output.
The input sliders at almost zero.
So its very high output from the player, but i cant tame it and get rid of the crackles that
come one second and disappear next and come back.
Any suggestions?
