One of my pet peeves about the old system was that there was very little differentiation between the color of visited links and unvisited links.

On the new system, there's no differentiation whatsoever.

Any chance of changing that?

se

Yes :)

Great work Jason and Mods, I like the look, but my title and my Avatar went missing. do I reload my avatar? And I thought my title was tongue in cheek funny so could I please have it back.

Custom titles will be restored within the next week.

oh no!

the threads don't align with results from google searches:

:(

Fixed.

1) Is there a query language the search functionality understands? If I enter more then one search term, the top results do not seem to be weighted the way I expect. this might just be a documentation thing.

2) Sometimes relevant search terms are thrown out. For example, i just searched for "5u4 rectifier"

Search: Keyword(s): rectifier
The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search: 5u4

3 letters and less don't work with the stock vBulletin search. Use the google search, it's better all round.

One thing to consider with the brighter colors is diyaudio.com's carbon footprint. With over 150,000 users all looking at screens and a move to a brighter/whiter scheme, that is a significant increase in power usage.

col.

As I understand it, the trend is towards LCDs. The backlight is always on, so it won't make a difference. In fact, darker colors it may use more power because the LCD has to turn on the pixel to stop the light coming through, no?

Is it a bug that the speaker icons don't flank the diyaudio logo anymore?

I miss 'em :crying:

No, they're gone :) Vifa should have paid me :) Or sued me :) (actually, I did get their permission) :)

My avatar appears with the wrong aspect ratio despite it seems to be properly scaled down, it comes from a 320x240 image.

It seems that the images are re-scaled for displaying forcing same width and height, despite original scaling when uploading.

Concerning forum appearance:

The previous look of the forum was quite unique, it was diyaudio look, it conferred the forum a strong personality, including the dark colours (I never felt that contrast was a problem), the layout and the speaker pictures.

Now it has almost no personality, the looks have a strong generic-vbulletin taste like thousands of other forums. The only remainder of personality are the background colours when viewing threads, and they are generic-vbulletin "contaminated" too because they are lighter. I see a lack of contrast now because everything is so close to white.

Full intensity white backgrounds like the one around the quick reply text box are insane.

Private messages

Nice job on the upgrade - thanks guys!!! :D

The new "private message" system may need some tweaking. I doubt the majority in here will like the 50 messages limit....
The old system where PM's were just sent to the email worked perfectly for me. Having to go into the website to reply slows me down significantly, and it would be a pain during GB's or in other high communication intensive endeavors.

I would prefer to get the email buttons back, but if you're very much against this, at least we should have something like a 10000 message limit instead.

Users can still email each other, all they have to do is click on your username and it gives them that option (it's actually the option directly below sending a private message). You can also set your options not to accept private messages if you so desire just as you can choose not to accept emails from other users.

One of the best features of the forum (IMO) was "Have you Searched?"

It's been eliminated - I guess people were checking the box without actually conducting the search? Or it was too much trouble so people were posting less? There are some old threads here that pretty much contain the answers to most everything :)

What is the consensus on this - remove or retain?

We were getting silly amounts of email from users who couldn't figure out that they had to tick the box before they could post. So, it was much less trouble just to remove it.

Lightspeed Attenuator (thread) mixup

Hi Jason, sorry another bug, the Lightspeed Attenuator thread that I started as been altered from the Solid State to the Analogue forum when the new site fired up.
I prefer it to be put back in the Solid State as it has more in common with preamps and is a mismatch for analogue turntables, it was designed for more for CDP's outputs.
One day if you get a Passive Preamap section going you could transfer it to there?
