John Curl's Blowtorch preamplifier

Sometimes, what they do, changes the sound in a negative way. It does not DISTORT the sound in any way that we can easily measure, however. The series resistance was originally .3 ohms and NOW (and for many years) is .025 ohms , purely resistive with no significant reactive part added to the thru-path. (I HAVE measurements proving this, made by an independent lab)

But the quotes are wrong conventional physics.

Maybe just some stuff to entertain his customers.

Just imagine for a moment that it works - would a single man have the means to develop and verify experimentally a theory - all on its own? Hardly.

However, I could not find any publications by him in the physics databases which does not make judging his works any easier.

Have fun, Hannes

Most people that know about physics are of course aware that there is no such thing as an electron that drifts or goes anywhere. The concept of the electron as a particle is just a convenient metaphore, to the convenience of both customers and suppliers, it seems.

Metaphoric ... well said.

But if everything is only metaphoric here, does the truth only lie in actually believing in what is claimed or in what you hear ?

The only difference between believing and prejudice is for me that prejudice comes prior a certain insight and believing afterwards.
But where is the qualitative difference between both, if no rational reasoning was involved ?

Sorry that I and many others are still in the prejudice phase !

Two questions to John:

Did you ever buy these purifiers for their official price from Mr. Bybee ?

If not, would you personally be willing to pay $4200 for two pairs of speaker terminators, because of the improvement in sound ?

Before things develop even more, I might convey what Jack Bybee told me this morning.
Apparently Jack Bybee was sent to Cal Tech to work with Richard Feynman, because Jack had extensive experience with state-of-the-art superconducting materials. This is the area of expertise that Feynman needed to help find 'missing mass' that he was looking for. I remember about 15 years ago, Jack, when talking about his time with Feynman stated that one equation 'blew up' IF the mass of the neutrino were zero. This was before, even when I first heard it, that neutrino mass was confirmed. The initial incident apparently happened in the '60's, long ago, by many estimates.

No, I have never purchased any Bybee devices, myself, even though I use them, sometimes.
I never directly designed them into my own equipment, however. Too expensive.
The VERY EXPENSIVE devices that are extremely out of my purchasing range, are made for a small group of rich audiophiles, who can easily afford the cost. While some profit is taken, I am told that there is virtually an ounce of gold in each set. When I heard this, I teased Jack incessantly, saying what next? Plutonium? He insists, after trying copper, silver, and whatever else he can get his hands on, that gold sounds best. Why, is up for speculation.
For the record, I don't think that Jack has EVER made any significant profit from this, any more than I have made on my own independent projects, that I have made for audiophiles. He is 79 years old, and needs to keep busy, especially away from his wife (a charming woman) during the day, so he messes around in his garage, with soldering irons, solder and exotic materials that are superior to mine, in a significant way.

Scott, I purchased my first HP calculator in 1963, when they first came out, and was glad for it. The HP calculator that I purchased at the UC Bookstore was the simplest calculator that I could find with REVERSE POLISH action. I am not good with TI calculators.
You are right, internment was the wrong word, I thought that it meant a stay of time, but it apparently means a FORCED stay of time. Just trying to use the language in a colorful way. I guess 'stay' would be adequate to replace 'internment'.

Wanting to feel secure ...

... and perhaps other factors.

Fear.

Fear is The Cornerstone, of the Skeptics Religion ...

Now this makes him as a person much more likeable for me, really ! :)

OK he does the best 0.3 Ohms, sorry 0.25 Ohms resistors in the world. That's more than enough for me and his explanations are for the dumb, rich ones, who finance his hobby. :D

state-of-the-art superconducting materials.

At that time that would have been Nb3Ge which is superconducting up to I think 17K. 1986 was the year the high-Tc ceramics were discovered.

That's his pseudo-scientific blabla that provokes us.

Don't worry I understand that very well, but this discussion will not lead anywhere.

Wether his stuff works or not will not be found out this way.

I'm a little surprised that that sort of entertainment still rises a lot of excitement here as the web is literally full of it (energized water anyone?).

What concerns me more is that I cannot find any publications by him; somebody working with Feynman must have published a lot.

Have fun, Hannes

PS: Oh and I'm missing the following argument: I am not aware of any quantum effects occuring at room temperature and/or microscopic sizes.
