What is a Wiki?

A wiki is a website that allows for the easy creation and editing of any number of interlinked web pages via a web browser using a simplified markup language or a WYSIWYG text editor. (source: Wikipedia)

Wiki content is created and uploaded by individual people, like you, who are willing to take a couple of hours out of their busy lives to pass on some information or expertise to the rest of us. Anyone can contribute to the wiki and, best of all, you don't have to ask for permission to do it.

Cool! How Can I Help?

There are many ways to contribute to the wiki. Some examples are:
  1. Migrate one of the articles over from the Old Wiki
  2. Look through the 'Wiki ToDo Queue' and pick a thread to migrate
  3. Add information to, of fix mistakes in existing articles
  4. Find content on diyAudio that should be added to the wiki and add it or mark it with the 'WikiToDo' tag so that it gets added to the WikiToDo queue.
  5. Write new articles of your own!

I don't know enough to create an Article; How else can I help?

If you can't think of a new article to write, no problem! There are literally thousands of threads on diyAudio that are just BEGGING to have wiki articles created that summarize the discussion! If you find one of these, contact the Original Poster (if they're still around) and see if it's okay for you to "wikify" their thread.

Is there a list of threads that need Wiki Articles?

Yes! Well, actually, no... we're still trying to figure out how to do this; be we should have a finalized solution by the end of the week.

  1. Allow users to tag threads; use WikiQ tag to signify that a thread should be turned into a wiki article - the biggest problem, however, is that thread tagging appears to be disabled...
