A balanced attenuator would be better. Honestly, though: I would just hook the DAC to the amp and turn the volume control down by 12 dB. You can also configure the MOD186 for 20 dB gain. Then you only have to turn the volume down by 6 dB.
It's a common myth that the input sensitivity of the amp must be exactly matched to the output voltage of the source.

Last call for Modulus-186. I have 12 modules left. Once they have sold the Modulus-186 will be discontinued.
The cost of assembly has increased by 43% over the past year. As result it no longer makes sense to keep the Modulus-186 going. Instead I will focus on the Modulus-286 and Modulus-686.

Will the Modulus86 kit still be available? https://neurochrome.com/collections/power-amplifiers/products/modulus-86-stereo-kit

Edit: 🤣 sorry, I thought it said DEC 2023, no JAN!

The Modulus-186 has been discontinued. It was too expensive to produce. It was basically within a few bucks of the Modulus-286 to produce but there was no way I would be able to get near Modulus-286 prices for the 186.
I'm running low on Modulus-286 as well. I'll likely make more. I'll see if I can lower the production cost a bit so I don't have to raise prices so much for the next batch. Parts and assembly have gotten quite a bit more expensive since the last batch.

The Modulus-86 Rev. 3.0 (current rev) has lower noise by a few dB than the Modulus-186 and, thereby, has lower THD+N. The IMD should be a smidge better too. The differences in the measurements reflect this and that I switched from the APx525 to the APx555 when the Modulus-86 Rev. 3 came out.

The Modulus-186 was a fully assembled module. So no assembly required (by you). If you need that experience, the Modulus-286 is where it's at: https://neurochrome.com/products/modulus-286
