Hello,
I will be launching another product shortly, the GALA DAC.
It is based on the same circuitry as the ApplePi DAC (see here). Uses dual Burr Brown PCM1794A chips in monaural mode, with dual differential outputs.
This DAC has S/Pdif input, bit-perfect volume control, and full linear power supplies using LT3042s.
Specs:
SNR: 130dB (0dbFS, A-Weighted)
THD+N: -108dB (0dbFS)
Output Level: 5Vrms
Sample Rates: 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 176.4 and 192kHz
Resolution: 16 and 24 bits
Introductory price: $400 ($500 Retail)
Here is a pic of front and back.
The reason I post this here is because I will also make the bare board available without the case to whom ever wants to implement the DAC in their own enclosure, or use it some other way. The price with no enclosure will be in the $275 USD range.

So on the bare board will the available inputs be only spidf or will there be i2s inputs? Any way to run multiple boards together for multi-channel or multi-way speaker use?
On the bare boards only SPdif will be accessible.
Yes you can run multiple boards together, you will need separate SPdif outputs for each two channels.

Adding to my previous response...
If you want access to I2S you will need to be able to remove 0402 resistors, and do some soldering.
On a serious note: Will the board include the soldered on SPDIF in, power supply in and the two XLR outputs?
Everything will be soldered. If enough people are interested I can work on having boards without those 4 connectors, they are not that hard to remove if you have the right equipment.
The residual noise from the analyzer was 0.9uV.
The noise measured with the DAC is 1.81uV.
The 1.81uV includes the noise from the analyzer so the noise from the analyzer needs to be subtracted out.
1.81uV = sqrt(X^2 + (0.9uV)^2), solve for X.
Noise from the DAC is X which is 1.57uV or 130dB referenced to 5V.

With all the work and running around trying to get the Indiegogo project running, I never had the time to sit down and properly listen to GALA.
Finally got GALA hooked up to my entertainment center, it sound much better than I could have imagined. It's hooked up to a pair of my own custom designed 25W mono-blocks.

I just received word that GALA will be certified under the Arrow Certification Program - Arrow Electronics and Indiegogo | Bring Your Hardware Project to Life.
This is a big advantage for this project as Arrow's engineers have rigorously reviewed all aspects of the design and confirmed that it either meets or exceeds all current industry standards.

I have received a lot of feedback that USB would be a feature people would like to see.
Now GALA is available with USB. You will be able to use it as it it had USB built in.
I am packaging it with a USB to S/Pdif converter. It will support upto 24-bit 192kHz. Performance is unaffected.
