Track Volumite position using a DC meter?

would it be possible to connect a DC meter to the potentiometer wiper to track the volumite's position?

I need to be able to recall different listening levels in my studio.

Any other idea for a display?

Not with a regular pot. About all you could do without replacing the pot
is to add a index under the knob.

Sure - you definitely could - but it would be much easier just to put index marks on the case and use a knob with and index indicator.

It would also pretty straightforward with a little firmware hacking to make firmware that would drive an LCD/OLED/VFD display.

No, you can't.
Audio frequency is a.c not d.c.
Not all the a.c voltage meters are ideal for this.
This is a job for a VU meter.
The easy way... use a stereo potentiometer in a mono input.
Place a known low level d.c across the unused potentiometer.
Connect the d.c meter between the 0v and the wiper.

Absolutely you could - No audio passes through the pot at all - just DC. We merely want to know the position of the pot.

The pot is only a voltage divider - which feeds the contoller's ADC to get a 8bit number That's how Volumite works - I should know - it's my design.

No - the question is about a specific module - "Volumite" which is really just a micro-controller and regulator with a DC referenced pot (3.3V) connected to it's ADC and I2C or SPI out to control DACs or an attenuator like our "Joshua Tree".

My suggestion remains - just index the knob with reference points on the case That's the simplest and actually very effective solution.

I will have to dig and see what the maximum current is for the relay drivers... I will see if I can find that. My inclination is that it's probably way too much for one driver. The only other option would be to create new firmware that can drive multiple driver boards (they each need to have their own address)

You actually could use multiple volumites - with a signal 3.3V supply and a single pot. That would be the most straightforward solution.

The cool thing about that approach is that (with a little wiring) you could use one pot as a "master" reference (make it a low value pot - like 2K) still use three independent levels all referenced to the "master" - if you need that sort of thing

You would connect the center pin pad of the potentiometer of the three boards, with a pot installed on only one. The three boards would also have to share a ground connection.

I am playing with a new version of the JT firmware that would allow you to drive three relay boards from a single Volumite. I'll (hopefully) get it tested tonight or tomorrow.
