I recently had the chance to audition a US Amps AX-TU300C hybrid "tube" amplifier as part of the new product launch. I was curious to hear what they sounded like, and I ended up being really disappointed. They lacked midbass, voices sounded far too sibilant, and on soft musical passages there was a ton of hash noise.

The tubes used were Sovtek 12AX7LPS's...I'm thinking it just had too much gain in the preamp stage. I wanted to try NOS 5751's to see if backing down the gain would help, but I didn't order them in time :(

I have a friend with two 1997-vintage Butler/Phaze Audio amps with 6L6's hardwired in the preamp stage, and they exhibit none of the raspyness that the USAmps did.

Just FWIW.
