Cost-no-object headamp / preamp

I going to try the cheap nasty approach, I have a couple of 1.6VA 120-0-120 to 0-12,0-12V transformers. See what frequency response I get. Drive the primary from a LTP ECC88 at 100V see what happens.

Ask 10 world class Chefs to:
Please consider what 7 spices they use most often.
Then, tell us the brands you prefer for each of those 7 spices.

What if you like the output transformer choice of one designer, and the coupling caps choice of another designer.
Will they have positive synergy; or will they be detrimental to each other's sound characteristics?

Travel to Pune, India.. then you don’t have to deal with NOS spices..

It is a good thing we have differences - and I would prefer the challenge of square pegs and round holes than take the easy route. Even if it means I learn about failing. I prefer a marmite design than a design accepted by commitee. Those are my decisions and values.

NickKUK,

I agree with you.

Each person has a sound that he wants.
A committee does not always work for that.

But the original Post # 1 said:
"headamp / preamp, preferably with 2*6SN7, 2*300B, 1 or 2*274B, as well as XLR input / output."

And then the original post also said:
"What is the complete list of components out there that I need to buy? (finest quality possible)".

I believe some of the best spices used to come from Indonesia.
I have eaten some really good food in Indonesia.

...Building a headphone amp with a 300B is about like asking to build a golf cart with a 2.5 liter V6 engine.....

Bah. Here we fit lawn tractors with 302 (5L) V-8s. Apparently this is done a lot of places.

But if you must have a V-8 to golf, there's a classic burn-out video (from your state!) AND I found the project-build porno:

I am a new member and a total noob with minimal soldering skills who would like to build a headamp / preamp, preferably with 2*6SN7, 2*300B, 1 or 2*274B, as well as XLR input / output.

A HEADAMP is a MC/moving coil pre-preamp and it's not the same as a HEADPHONE amp. Please clarify.

A pair of step-up transformers are more suitable over a headamp/pre-preamp, if that's what you're looking for.

In fairness the term headamp seems to have been adopted as a term for headphone amplifier, both commercially and in general conversation. If you google the term you get nearly exclusively headphone amplifiers. There's even a company, headamp.com, who sell lots of headphone amps, but no headamps that I can see.
