My Quad Electrostat did glow.
I had aan OTL output transformerless design from Krihn-Hite. It was designed to give 200V in 200ohms . . .
And it sounded great on the ESL57 - untill I dropped the PU needle and I saw the arcs in the speakers . It took some time for them to slowly restore (the edges of the holes burn away or evaporate).

i like the glow of the FU13 and GU81.
And do not forget those nixie tubes.
And yes, i like those blue leds.

IMHO: unlikely to be electrostatic. Balanced Armature more likely. Especially if the cone has a small rod glued in the center.

BA drivers have become "obsolete" with the declining cost of electronic amplification, but I am listening to one now.

Yes. You are correct it appears. I have not really studied on this radio model yet, so many other projects going on. House remodelling in progress, ect. One of these days though, I will get to it.:)

That moment you realize either you're beating the crap out of that 12AU7, or it's failing...

A cheap Chinese replacement (EDIT: PSVane isn't cheap apparently) does the trick and doesn't glow like this. It's in a regulator.
