Well I turned 40 today, and I've been waiting for the day to come to delve into design of a valve circuit or two. I've picked up some other literature but articles seem, vague and spotty, jumping back and forth. I have seen this book recommended along with "Valve Amplifiers".
Now I don't know if I'm missing something, or if I've bought the *wrong* book, but .... I'm disappointed to say the least. I know how to use a tit drill, metalwork punches and understand layout (Not perfectly but it's served me well enough) Where are the calculations, circuit topologies, design methodology? Absolutely gutted.

The title is clear: Building Valve Amplifiers.
If you are interested in design, get "Valve Amplifiers", also from Jones.

Yes I have realised that fact, a little late (after receiving as a gift and the titles being very similar, I reckon a slight miscommunication to the lady)
I.e. I think Valve Amplifiers was the book I intended to buy, and what I have received is the Other book.
So I'm going to order the correct book and sell this one, since the return window closed already.

I found Valve Amplifiers, fourth edition, by Morgan Jones quite thorough and full of formulae. I bought it as an eBook, (cheapskate, I know).

If you google 'High Fidelity Circuit Design Norman H. Crowhurst' it will bring up several .pdf versions of the book. All 300+ pages.

It is dated, but physics remains the same and those Gernsback books are excellent if you find the originals.

If I were you I would have both of the books. So many times I have been asked by friends to lay out their chassis and luckily I have a wealth of factory experience and can do so easily and quickly. It would seem to me the first book you purchased would certainly help someone without any layout/sheet metal experience and should probably be kept unless you are very experienced yourself.

I don't know about yours, by my local library has a copy in their reference section
Our local library system shows a total of 6 books with amplifier in the title.
Our local libraries tend to mostly focus on providing computers so people can look at porn in the middle of a crowded room. And an entryway that always smells like pee.
They have it within their exchange system where they can get it from other library systems but the last time I did that the librarian looked at me with a worried look and said "check every page before you check it out and note any writing, folds or damage, if there is anything anywhere in the book that isn't listed when you check it out they will bill you" and it was in the three figure range for the bill.
