A CCS that is far from perfect, but has Very Low noise is . . .
The possible problems with using an inductor as a CCS are:
hum pickup from magnetic fields - noise
DCR - noise
Inductance too low - low impedance at low frequencies
Distributed capacitance - low impedance at high frequencies
I have used inductors as CCS in cathode coupled phase splitters; and also in self inverting cathode coupled push pull output stages.
I have also used inductors as CCS in SE output stages (output transformers); not many think of it as a CCS (It just happens to be in parallel with the reflected load).
There is very little noise from any of these inductors, the exceptions are listed above.
One thing about these inductors, they do not self oscillate.
