Reducing gain in a monoblock

decreasing gain on a single stage can be done in several ways, by decreasing plate load resistance, by decreasing the plate supply voltage of a voltage amp stage, thereby reducing its cathode current hence lead to reduced gains...several tricks are available to the builder...local feedbacks also reduces gain, such as an unbypassed cathode resistor...
there are ways.....which do you prefer?

DIYengineer, just to make sure, is your amplifier this TORRES "design" with the starved phaseinverter
feeding 4 KT88 tetrodeconnected and without external fb (other than the unintended fb that cause troubles)?

I found that it was a faulty regulator in the preamp

So I triode wire the KT66’s and adjusted the NFB. The amps are now very quiet. The gain is also much better even without touching the EF86.

As far as the decrease in power from triode wiring, I still have more power than I actually need so I trhink I’m good there.

I would say the overall clarity and tone has improved with these modifications.

triode mode has lesser power available to the speakers, not necessarily lesser voltage gain...
