I use 841 tubes (mu=30).
This (thoriated tungsten cathode) tube is super, but a little expensive... but it is relative considering EML prices.
It like high (400-500V) anode voltage and hate low (below 250k) loading.
It is proper VAS driving with 10Y cathode follower my 801a PSE.

HI euro but the 841 are extinct...unlucky...
The dinosaurs are extincts. 841 is rare, but available on ebay.

Well, 2C22 is an honorary DHT in my opinion.
.
Funny you say this - I only use DHTs and if I had to use an indirectly heated equivalent it would be the 2C22. I kept a few just in case.
There's always the 3a5. Gain of 15 if that helps. Not a bad tube. Not a 4P1L, a 10Y, a 26 or an 01A, but still as good or better than a lot of indirectly heated tubes. Possibly the 1J6, though you have to buy a lot to get a few with well matched sections if you want to use them as diff pairs. .
DHTs just have some kind of extra vividness and vitality. It's like a drug - you can't do without it once you've experienced it.
I wouldn't use 2C22 with under 200k load line at least. Best to get the full performance out of it.
2J27 has a mu of about 20 in my measurements.
You mean 20K, right?
1T4 triode strapped would give gain of about 20.
... according to the original datasheet (as a triode) it's gain is only about 10. Nevertheless, the 1T4's acoustic result would be worth trying!
Unfortunately, as far as I experienced it, the 1T4's lifetime seems relative short. Could this be confirmed?
