I have been tinkering with an old Grommes S35 PA amp from the 60's for a few weeks now. I got it working, nice clean sound and actually sounds very nice with my old les paul, just not much gain. I did wire the two gain stages together in series with a switch, got a nice little gain boost, but not a bunch. The question: There is an RCA output that is labeled "Output tape recdr booster amp.". A friend of mine mentioned that I might get some more gain from the pre-amp stages if I feed this back into the first stage. Is this crazy? Im pretty new to tubes, so thanks in advance for patience and advice!

Hi,

Yes it is crazy. It will just oscillate. The output is for a tape recorder or
booster amplifier. Use a clean level boost pedal on the input for more
gain, done right it should overdrive the first gain stage into "dirtier".

rgds, sreten.
