Single section equivalent of 6SL7

As to the reason why, I guess I am just not too comfortable to using a tube with one section not being used while the heater is running.

Just ground the section you don't use: grid, anode and cathode.

Thanks Frank, I should have stated that, but consider it implicit in my response. If you're <i>really</i> worried about cathode poisoning, and I dont think it's an issue if you swap the tubes, say monthly, then run a high value resistor to the anode to keep a trickle moving through it. maybe 1/20 the active section. Opinions people?

As for elegant, that's certainly up to individual opinion, but I fail to see what's <i>in</i>elegant about this arrangement; you even get your tube pins cleaned regularly.

Anybody knows if there is a tube with single section, that is electrically equivalent to 6SL7?

That would be 6AQ7, a single triode with two diodes. Here's the datasheet. You can ground the two diodes and use just the triode like half 6SL7.

Yes, interesting that no one had the answer in 2003. I believe the 6AQ7 was made before then...
