Thanks Frank, I should have stated that, but consider it implicit in my response. If you're <i>really</i> worried about cathode poisoning, and I dont think it's an issue if you swap the tubes, say monthly, then run a high value resistor to the anode to keep a trickle moving through it. maybe 1/20 the active section. Opinions people?

As for elegant, that's certainly up to individual opinion, but I fail to see what's <i>in</i>elegant about this arrangement; you even get your tube pins cleaned regularly.
