tube heater over voltage!please help...

hi folks,

the heater voltage on my 6v6 amp reads 8.20vac.... i tried dropping resistors in series with one of the filament pins from .5ohm to 10ohm i still see no drop in voltage.....please help

Are you measuring at the tube socket pins with tube in place? There's no voltage drop if there's no current...

thanks tom....problem solved! im now reading 6.1 volts! is the tube underheated? does it really need to be 6.3v?

6.1V is good enough.

Absolutely- and your tubes will last quite a bit longer as well, with slightly lower heater voltage.

Hi
Its also worth while having heater transformers custom wound with different taps on the primary. With nos valves becoming more expensive the cost is worth it .
