So how tattered is your Morgan Jones?

MJ does cover single-ended, but not to the same depth as a True Believer would. I wouldn't be without the Third Edition if I could help it, but a DHT aficionado will not get all the guidance he needs. I'm not hugely familiar with the DHT-SE specialist stuff, but if I were to research a DHT design and didn't feel up to learning from the primary literature, I'd probably start with the reprint set from Vacuum Tube Valley. I think it's on CD these days.

Re: "Simple Jazz"

I suppose this is the "Simple jazz" that Morgan refered to so derisively when he was talking about SE design shortcomings.

I think that he meant "simple" in the sense that the recordings are not challenging to the equipment in the way say, that a full symphony orchestra is.

See also his elaborate piece about the Scrapbox Challenge amplifier in the third edition.

Morgan & company...

I consider it an honor for Mr. Jones...OK, OK, Morgan to comment on my well used book.
I should have known he would be perusing this forum....keeping eye-on-the-pulse-of...
Guess I should get the third edition huh? More info is allways a good thing.
On the simple jazz thing...I like what you might call a low duty cycle music, alot of music nowadays is really...for lack of better word 'busy'. Note: I'm right now listening to Iron Butterfly 'In a Gadda da Vida'.
Perhaps the best word is compressed..but we know what compression is technically.
Isolation of instruments might be closer. Note: The synthesized doppler effect is still impressive on Iron...
Listening to music now ..bye.
