Low amp Impedance input and high dac output

I think I made an idiot thing: I connected the analog output of my DAC directly to the analog input of my tube power amp. I don't know the impedance input of the powamp, but I know that the DAC have an 800ohm impedance output. The sound was terrible. After that, and after a lot of other "experiments", the power amp begins smell like it was burning. If the powamp have a low impedance input what happen? The reason of the burning smell is that? what can I do?
Thanks in advance
