hey guys!

just got my board in the mail for a SSE!!

im trying to get a parts list started, but i had a few questions.

id like to put some nicer parts in the signal chain if i can, and i was hoping someone could take a look and verify if i got everything, or added too many.

R22-100ohm 1/4W
R12-100ohm 1/4W
R23-330ohm 1/4W
R13-330ohm 1/4W
C11-0.22uF 600V
C21-0.22uF 600V
R19-1k 1/4W
R29-1k 1/4W
R16-100ohm 1/4W
R18-100ohm 2W
R26-100ohm 1/4W
R28-100ohm 2W

also my first read through has me picking these transformers for power/opt

Edcor XPWR035

Edcor CXSE25-5K
so thats about $200 in opt and 100 in power trans.

is there anything else i should look at in the same price range that might be better? i plan to run EL34 with this amp.

Those are the same transformers I have.
I purchased Obligatto Gold coupling caps ( .22 mfd 630v ) from Parts Connexion.
I also purchased a Temco motor run cap and a Triad choke to eventually use.

My plan is to use either my spare Sovtek KT-88's or my leftover TungSol KT-120's and my TungSol 12AU7's. I have VTA ST-120 tube amp that I was using 4 KT-120's in. One red plated so now I have 3 left. The Sovteks were what came with the amp. I switched over to the Tung Sols right away so they should all be good. I have a tube preamp that uses 12AU7's so I have a lot of those leftover.

I use those same transformers in my SSE and I'm very pleased with their performance, for the price they're a great deal.

One thing to note, the 5V filament supply for the rectifier tube is rated for 2 amps., this will preclude some rectifiers like
5U4 which require 3 amps. However, most SSE owners use the 5AR4 rectifier which require 2 amps., 5V4 and 5Y3 rectifiers
can also be used if a lower DC voltage supply is okay.

is there a power trans available that allows for 3 amp on the filament?

does anyone have any input on the signal chain?
im planning caddocks and Audyn True Copper caps for all of the previously listed items, and just want to make sure i dont put stuff where it isint needed.

Edcor has a few others with a 5V 3A filament supply that will be suitable for the SSE. You can checkout these 3 -

XPWR155
XPWR179
XPWR222

The first two will have a bit lower voltage on the high voltage secondaries but they should still work well with KT88, 6L6 and EL34 tubes.

The XPWR222 transformer has a 5V - 6A filament supply and slightly higher voltage on the high voltage secondaries compared to the
XPWR035 you mention but this should still be okay.

i see that the XPWR222 is not center tapped for the 6.3. is that something that is needed for this build?

My last order, about 5 months ago, took approx. 3 weeks.... several years ago, it would take 6 weeks, so there's been improvement... I've done 6 different builds using Edcor iron and have no complaints. Worth the wait.
I used a XPWR155 for my SSE... 10-12 hours of play time and it doesn't break a sweat...you can hold your hand for minutes on it.

nobody ever responded about the signal chain, so i went ahead and ordered the parts from partsconnexion.

CADDOCK-51165 4 4 Each MK-132-100
CADDOCK-51181 2 2 Each MK132-1.00K
CADDOCK-62250 2 2 Each MP-930 100R
CADDOCK-62275 2 2 Each MK132-330
JJCAP-64302 1 Each 200uf 500V JJ TESLA CAPACITOR
JJCAP-64305 1 Each 47uf 500V JJ TESLA CAPACITOR
JUPITER-78883 2 Each 0.22uF/600V, Copper Foil,Paper & Wax

in short, caddocks for the resistors jj caps for the couple of bigger power caps and jupiter copper foil for the coupling caps.

i am pretty excited to get this started.

i am almost done building my mouser cart out, but had a few questions.

i would prefer to not have to deal with another order from digikey,

is there a substitute that works for the CCS, and heatsink on mouser? (IXCP10M45S-ND)

the FRED is not needed if doing tube rectification, right?

also which terminal strips are the right ones from mouser?

planning on picking up this motor cap

https://www.grainger.com/product/TITAN-PRO-Round-Motor-Run-Capacitor-30D629

is there a better deal/quality somewhere else? or should i be looking at a larger cap
