This is for the Vancouverites and Islanders out there.

Looking to drive out to the island for the 1st time ever in early July. Need to plan an itinerary. What are wait times for the ferry like and on what days? Need to know if I should avoid the weekends altogether. Are Mondays and Fridays OK, or are the ferry wait times super long on those days as well?

I haven’t taken a ferry in a long time. Weekends do tend to be busiest.

Tony, get a reservation. The cost is nothing compared with restless passengers waiting for the next ferry.

Summer weekends (including Mondays and Fridays) are usually very busy.
Cal is spot on wrt reservations.
If you plan side trips to the Gulf Islands, ask about a BC Ferries “Discovery” card - it can save some $$$.

Yes, call them direct and act like someone dumb who wants to use their services regularly. Amazing customer service.
